Throughout history, Ford has given us some pretty amazing small cars, starting from the legendary Fiesta, which has always been among the favorites among small hatchbacks. Since the start of the crossover era, the Blue Oval company has had one not-so-successful try with the EcoSport. However, the second try was way better. We saw a stylish small SUV called Puma. The new crossover has been around for a while and it looks like there are some interesting novelties to come for the next year. Allegedly, the 2024 Ford Puma is about to get an all-electric version.
So far, not many details about the Puma EV are available, except that it will ride on the same platform. On the other hand, the standard versions are expected to carry on in the same way, offering familiar designs and features.
We expect that the gasoline-powered model will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year, while the all-electric version is expected in 2024.
2024 Ford Puma Will Get an All-Electric Version
The biggest novelty for the next year should be the introduction of the all-electric version. At this point, the company is pretty successful in keeping details about the EV Puma a secret but we can predict some things about the new iteration.
One of the rare things that’s for sure is that the 2024 Ford Puma EV will ride on the same B platform as the standard version. This means a Fiesta-based design, with a 10 cm longer wheelbase. The EV will also be produced in Ford’s assembly in Romania, alongside standard Puma and a few commercial vehicles.
We don’t expect to see significant differences regarding the overall design. On the other hand, we will certainly see a couple of exclusive details that accentuate the model’s all-electric nature. In terms of the drivetrain, we still don’t know the details about the electric motors, though we may presume that base versions will feature a single-motor setup at the front. Details about the battery capacity are also unavailable but we presume that the EV Puma will offer over 320 km of range on a single charge.
2024 Ford Puma Design
On the other hand, the standard model is expected to carry on in the same way. This crossover has been around since 2019 and we don’t expect to see bigger changes in the future. Visually, the next year’s model will continue in the same way, with lots of smooth lines and a sleek profile, which closely resembles the original Puma.
In terms of mechanics, there is really no reason for bigger changes at the moment. The car rides on a contemporary B platform and shares most of the parts with Fiesta. The suspension setup is good and offers a pretty nice balance between comfort and athleticism. The steering feel is pretty good, just like the overall driving experience, which is very Focus-like.
The same thing is with interior design. This crossover shares a lot with Fiesta, as we already mentioned, so the dashboard is no exception. The overall design is pretty “old-school”, with classic aesthetics and lots of physical control. Of course, the infotainment screen is also there, with intuitive control and very easy overall operation. The materials could be better but, on the other hand, everything feels solid and well-assembled.
As we already mentioned, the Puma features a 10 cm longer wheelbase than Fiesta. Therefore, it’s easy to feel additional legroom, especially in the second row. The SUV can accommodate two adults in the second row pretty easily, though some rivals are still more generous with space. The front seats are well-shaped, while the driving position is closer to a hatchback than an SUV.
2024 Ford Puma Engines
The engine offer largely depends on the market but there are three petrol units in total that the Blue Oval company has to offer in this small crossover. The first one is a small 1.0-liter turbocharged inline-3, which puts out around 125 horsepower. It’s pretty decent for driving around town but we would rather pay extra for the hybrid version. It uses the same engine but gets help from the electric motor. With the additional power and torque, driving dynamics are notably better but this setup is also a little bit thirstier.
Finally, there is the bigger 1.5-liter turbo engine, with a pretty impressive max output of 200 horsepower. This engine works great in a combination with Puma’s engaging handling and it is a great choice for drivers who look for a sporty ride.
The base engine is also the most fuel-efficient, with an average economy of around 52.3 mpg. Although the company claims similar ratings for the hybrid, the real-world numbers are more like 42 mpg in a combined ride. Of course, the 200-hp is significantly thirstier but we presume that buyers of this version won’t care much about fuel consumption.
2024 Ford Puma Release Date and Price
The petrol-powered Puma will arrive sometime in the last quarter of 2023, while the all-electric version is expected to arrive sometime in 2024. The current model starts at around £20.500 in the UK and we don’t expect bigger changes for the next year. Some of the alternatives are models like Nissan Juke, Skoda Kamiq etc.
