2024 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: Changes, Specs, and Release Date

If there is an SUV that has been around for way too long, that would be the Lexus GX. The current generation of this body-on-frame SUV has been around since 2009 and it looks like the company isn’t rushing with the redesign. According to the latest reports, the current model will remain in production for another year, while the next generation is expected to debut as the 2024 Lexus GX. We are still waiting for the official confirmation.

Despite that we are still waiting to hear something from the officials, some things about the next generation seem pretty certain. This particularly refers to the new platform, while we are also pretty sure that the current V8 engine will be replaced with something more efficient. Naturally, we also count on things like the new styling, new interior design, new tech features etc.

We believe that the 2024 Lexus GX will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Lexus GX Redesign

Of course, all kinds of novelties are expected with this redesign. The first thing that comes to mind is the platform. The new 2024 Lexus GX will also switch to the company’s new TNGA-F platform, which means that the new GX will also be a genuine BoF SUV, with strong off-road and utility capabilities. Once again, we expect that most parts will be shared with the Land Cruiser Prado, which is also expected to receive a complete redesign in the next year.

The new platform will bring many benefits and one of the first things that come to mind is the improved on-road ride quality, which should be smoother and more engaging. However, we don’t expect that the 2024 Lexus GX will sacrifice any of its off-road performance. Moreover, we count on a full load of available features, such as locking differentials, two-speed transfer case etc.

Exterior

Naturally, this redesign will also bring a completely new styling. The new aesthetics should be based on the brand’s latest design language, so a lot of parts should be shared with the new LX. In other words, we expect that the overall shape will remain largely the same, while the main difference will be at the front, where we expect to see the latest iteration of the brand’s famous spindle grille design.

On the other hand, we don’t expect that the 2024 Lexus GX will come with bigger changes regarding the size. The overall dimensions will remain the same, as well as the wheelbase, which should go around 110 inches. While that may seem quite modest for a mid-size SUV, it’s highly beneficial in terms of off-roading.

Interior

When we look at the current generation, this is the aspect that desperately needs updates. While the overall quality is undoubtedly great, the dashboard looks quite outdated. Therefore, we count on completely new aesthetics, with a more modern look, more tech features, nicer materials etc.

As we’ve just mentioned, the wheelbase will probably remain the same, or very similar. Therefore, we don’t expect to see significant changes regarding passenger space. The first two rows of seats will be spacious and comfortable, while the optional third row will be tight and only for kids.

2024 Lexus GX Engine

This aspect will bring one of the biggest changes for the new generation. The current 4.6-liter V8 engine will be replaced, despite the impressive reliability and beautiful engine note. Simply, the company needs something more efficient and one of the possibilities is to see a de-tuned version of the new 3.4-liter V6, which debuted in the new Tundra. In this pickup, it puts out 389 horsepower but we presume that the new GX would be good for about 340-350 horsepower.

The other scenario suggests a hybrid powertrain, which would be based on a turbo-four engine, with a combined output of 350 horsepower.

In both cases, we expect to see a new 10-speed automatic transmission paired with the new powertrain.

Fuel Consumption

One of the weakest points of the current generation is poor fuel economy. It goes around 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, which is the main reason why Lexus needs something more efficient. We have no doubt that the new powertrain would provide much better mpg ratings. Some rough estimations would go around 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway for the V6, while the hybrid would be even better in this aspect.

2024 Lexus GX Release Date and Price

We believe that the 2024 Lexus GX will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 55.000 dollars. Key competitors would be models like Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Discovery etc.
