However, the latest news claims that eventually this unit will be replaced by a 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo which is even more powerful. It has the output of 603 horses and 664 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic and the 4Matic all-wheel drive layout is standard.
On the other hand, according to some speculations, the new GLS might get a mild electrification meaning that this time it could receive a plug-in hybrid engine which will combine an inline-6 and an electric motor. The V-8 unit could also appear with a hybrid technology. Furthermore, 9-speed automatic and all-wheel drive layout will generally be standard on most versions.
