The Lexus carmaker has revealed its all-new model which will be branded as the 2019 Lexus UX. It is a compact crossover SUV which will be available in two variants, the standard UX 200 and a hybrid version named the UX 250h. As well, it is the Company’s first compact crossover which will also be the first model to ride on the new GA-C architecture.
As expected, the 2019 Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h will look very attractive with its aggressive and unique styling. The interior will also be very stylish and we expect modern and advanced tech features. It will be cozy and spacious although the UX might lack in a cargo space. In the engine front, it will get a gasoline engine so as the hybrid which will be more fuel efficient. Its production should start later this year with the first sales expected at the end of the year.
The main rivals of the new Lexus UX will be Audi Q3, Infiniti QX30, Mercedes-Benz GLA Class, BMW X1, and Volvo XC40.
Powertrain and performances of the 2019 Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h
Under the bonnets of the 2019 Lexus UX 200 and Lexus UX 250h will be placed two engines. So, the Lexus UX 200 will be powered by the new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine which will be able to make 168 horses and 151 pound-feet of torque. It will be coupled to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and will come standard with front-wheel drive configuration. The fuel efficiency of this unit is estimated to be around 33 mpg in the combined drive.
On the other hand, the Lexus UX 250h will use a hybrid engine under its hood. This powertrain will combine a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit with two electric motors of 88 kWh (118 hp), and a nickel-metal-hydride battery. The total output of this engine will be around 176 horsepower. The all-wheel drive system will be standard for this unit because of the second electric motor which is placed on the rear axle. As well, it will also be mated to a CVT. As for the fuel economy, this unit gets 38 mpg combined.
The exterior design of the 2019 Lexus UX 200 and Lexus UX 250h
The 2019 Lexus UX 200 and Lexus UX 250h is the all-new vehicle in the brand’s lineup but it will share some similar details with the other Lexus models especially with the LC500. The upcoming Lexus will look very attractive; it will feature sharp lines all over the body which will give it a bit aggressive and dramatic appearance. Starting with the front fascia which will get an aggressive and sharply sculpted hood and a large, well-known spindle grille. The headlamps will be angular and will be very similar to the ones in the LC500 model. However, they will receive slightly different design and unique LED trim. Moving to the rear fascia, the sharp design continues with taillights and bumper.
Furthermore, there will also be the F Sport version available which will offer some new details. So, the F Sport model will get a new design of the front and rear bumper, and black trim on both front and rear moldings. As well, this version will also receive unique elements inside the cabin. The standard UX will ride on the 17-inch wheels while the F Sport package will use the larger 18-inch wheels. As for its dimensions, the Lexus UX will be 177 inches long and will have a wheelbase of 103.9-inches. As well, the UX will be the brand’s first model to ride on the new GA-C (Global Architecture-Compact) architecture. According to the manufacturer, this platform will provide the lowest center of gravity.
Design of interior and equipment
The interior of the 2019 Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h will be a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and style. It looks very attractive with two-tone design and advanced technology. All the seats are highly comfortable, supportive and perforated. They are upholstered in leather and feature contrast stitching. On the center of the dashboard, there is a large infotainment screen. The screen is controlled by the touchpad which is placed on the right side of the gear shifter. On the other hand, the F Sport version will be slightly different from the standard version. It will receive front sport seats, aluminum pedals, and F Sport steering wheel.
As for the safety, we can expect automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control to be the part of the standard equipment. Among optional features, there should be road-sign recognition, active lane control, and automatic high-beam headlamps.
Release date and prices of the 2019 Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h
The new 2019 Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h should be available sometime at the end of 2018. The price of the standard model should start at around $30,000 while the hybrid should be around $35,000.
