The manufacturer is working on the next generation model of its popular SUV, and it is the 2020 GMC Yukon. The fifth generation model will come with many improvements starting from the all-new platform which will make it lighter for around 300 pounds. The exterior design will also be refreshed with the new front fascia while the interior will be upgraded with more quality materials and new colors. The GM Super Cruise Control autonomous driving technology will also be offered.
2020 GMC Yukon engines and performances
The brand-new 2020 GMC Yukon will arrive at the market with several engine options beneath its hood. So, the one is expected to be a 2.7-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine and it will be able to make 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. It will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and will be offered with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The next is going to be a 5.3-liter V-8 engine. This unit will have the output of 355 horses and 383 lb-ft of torque. It will use the same 8-speed automatic and will come either RWD or AWD layouts. Connected to rear wheels, it will get 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel drive model is rated at 16/22 mpg. The extended version of the AWD model is estimated to be 15/22 mpg in the city/highway drive.
The next is going to be a 6.2-liter V-8 engine which will be able to generate 420 horses and 460 pound-feet of torque. It will be linked to the same 8-speed automatic gearbox and will come with RWD and AWD options. The rear-wheel drive model will get 14/23 mpg while the AWD will get 14/22 MPG. The extended version of the RWD model is rated at 14/23 while the AWD model is estimated to be 14/21 mpg in the city/highway drive.
On the other hand, we can also expect the diesel variant of this model and this one will use a 3.0-liter inline-6 turbo diesel engine. This unit will have the output of around 280 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. It will be coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. As well, it will be offered with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.
Platform and exterior design of the 2020 GMC Yukon
The all-new 2020 GMC Yukon is going to be the next, precisely, the fifth generation of this model. And therefore it is expected to bring many changes. First of all, it will be underpinned with the new GM T1 platform. So, this will affect its weight which will make it significantly lighter compared to the previous generation model. And it is going to be lighter for around 300 pounds.
As far as the exterior design is concerned, the 2020 GMC Yukon will be revised and will look more modern and more handsome. The front end will most likely get a new design of the grille which will be more upright and larger. It also probably won’t get the previous crossbar design. Moreover, the headlights will also be restyled and will get the new C-shaped lighting. The profile will remain the same with boxy and upright appearance and will look more muscular. Furthermore, the new Yukon will remain to be offered in two body styles and those are the regular Yukon and the extended-length model called the Yukon XL.

In terms of interior design, the 2020 GMC Yukon will be revised with more quality materials and some new color combinations. It will also get a more usable third row of seats which will provide more space and comfort. As well, the luxury will be improved too. And the manufacturer will most likely offer the new GM Supper Cruise autonomous driving technology.
The equipment of the 2020 GMC Yukon
The base 2020 GMC Yukon will come with three-row seating, 18-inch wheels, cloth upholstery, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Bose audio system, three-zone climate control, automatic wipers, Bluetooth, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, etc. The navigation, power liftgate, Enhanced driver alert package with automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and forward collision warning, and automatic high beams will be optional. The SLT model will add leather seats, power-folding second and third rows of seats, heated and ventilated front seats, keyless ignition, and a heated steering wheel, and so on. The full-speed automatic emergency braking, a moonroof, navigation, and a rear-seat system will be optional.
The Denali will come with Bose audio system, active noise canceling, magnetic suspension, 20-inch wheels etc. Adaptive cruise control, a moonroof, power side steps, and 22-inch wheels will be optional.
Release date and price
The new 2020 GMC Yukon is expected to see the light of the day next fall. The price is expected to start at around $48,000.
