Just a few years ago, everyone believed that traditional body-on-frame SUVs will remain nothing more than a small niche on the market and that crossovers will overflow all segments. From today’s perspective, crossovers did overtake the market but traditional SUVs are also becoming more and more popular. The Wrangler is as popular, while Ford can’t make enough Broncos, due to the high demand. Finally, even the outdated 4Runner still marks excellent sales results. So, GMC is about to re-enter the market, with the 2024 GMC Jimmy, rumors suggest.
At this point, the officials are still quiet but with the new generation of Canyon on the way, it’s quite easy to predict Jimmy’s direction. We presume GMC will do the same thing Ford did with Bronco, and offer a truck-based highly-capable off-roader, probably also in two variants, both in 2- and 4-door iterations.
At this point, the 2024 GMC Jimmy is still just a rumor, these rumors suggest it could arrive already in the next year.
2024 GMC Jimmy Design
So, although the 2024 GMC Jimmy is still just a rumor, most things about it are pretty easy to predict, especially when it comes to mechanics and the base design. As we’ve just mentioned, GMC would do the same thing as Ford did with the Bronco. The overall design would be heavily based on the Canyon, which has just been redesigned. The new SUV would use the same chassis, suspension, drivetrain etc.
Moreover, it could also follow the same design language, with the same or very similar front-end design. At this point, it is still unclear but it looks like the Jimmy could also come in two variants, just like future rivals. We could see both a short-wheelbase two-door version, as well as a bigger and more comfortable four-door model.
Interior
This aspect shouldn’t bring any surprise, especially if we consider that GMC did a pretty nice job with the Canyon’s new cabin layout. Therefore, we expect to see the same dashboard design, which combines modern and retro aesthetics and utilizes mostly fine and quality materials. Furthermore, there is a pretty generous list of tech features, including the massive 11.3-inch infotainment screen, which would be part of the standard equipment. Base models would feature an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while higher trim levels would offer a larger 11-inch unit.
The amount of passenger space would largely depend on the body style. Base 2-door models wouldn’t be particularly generous with passenger room in the second row, due to the short wheelbase, while the cargo area would be pretty small as well. On the other hand, the four-door model would be way more generous, with plenty of passenger space and a generous cargo area.
2024 GMC Jimmy Engine
This aspect definitely won’t bring any surprise. The Canyon recently ditched the V6 engine, as well as the other units, so the offer is now based on the new 2.7-liter turbo-four, which comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The company will offer three variants of the engine, starting from the base unit that puts out around 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. Higher trim levels would come with a more powerful variant of the engine, with 301 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the range-topping models should come with a version of the engine that puts out 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Naturally, four-wheel drive will be standard, while we also count on features like low-range gearing, locking differentials and other off-road goodies.
Fuel Economy
Due to insufficient data, it’s still early to talk about fuel economy.
2024 GMC Jimmy Release Date and Price
We believe that the 2024 GMC Jimmy could arrive already in the next year and that base models would cost around 35.000 dollars.
