The BMW’s SUV lineup has been expanded with the new model named the BMW X2 and which has entered the market as the 2018 model year. The X2 stands between the smaller X1 and larger X3 models but it is very similar to the BMW X1. However, it is a sportier, lower and less spacious version of the X1. It looks sleek, it provides good handling, it is relatively efficient, and for those who love small crossovers, the X2 might be a good choice. And unlike its main rivals such as Audi Q3 or Mercedes-Benz GLA, the X2 provides better interior space. Although the X2 has been all-new for the 2018 model year, according to the latest news, the carmaker is preparing the next version which will enter the dealerships as the 2019 BMW X2.
For the 2019 BMW X2, we don’t expect any changes since it is the all-new model for 2018. It is available in sDrive28i with front-wheel setup and xDrive28i with all-wheel drive system. Furthermore, there is also an M Sport X Package which features a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wheels, a sport transmission and suspension, and an M Sport steering wheel.
Engine and performance of the 2019 BMW X2
The newest 2019 BMW X2 will be powered by the same engine as the current and it is the powertrain also found in the X1. It is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 unit which is able to make 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It works with an 8-speed automatic transmission and it is available with front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems. The M Sport X will use the same engine but it will feature a sport-tuned version of the same 8-speed automatic gearbox. It will be able to hit 60 mph in 6.3 seconds.
As for the fuel economy, the X2 xDrive28i gets 22 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg combined. The front-wheel version will get similar numbers as the BMW X1.
Design of the exterior and interior
The 2019 BMW X2 shouldn’t get any changes this time since it is still new. It looks like a sportier and sleeker version of the X model. The front end features the brand’s familiar twin-kidney grille, full LED headlamps, and larger air intakes. The rear end gets standard spoiler while the M Sport X version will feature a more aggressive design.
The interior of the X2 is less roomy than the X1. The sporty front seats are comfortable but the rear ones are a bit tight. However, considering its size, they are sufficiently cozy. The cargo space is slightly less generous than the X1 which makes it less functional.
The dashboard features a 6.5-inch touchscreen for infotainment system. All the models come standard with leatherette upholstery, an AM/FM/CD audio system, 18-inch alloys, USB, a rearview camera, 10-way power adjustable front seats, a power liftgate, and so on. The M Sport X package will include satellite radio, a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch wheels, keyless entry and starting etc.
Release date and price
We are still not sure when exactly the 2019 BMW X2 will hit the market. The pricing should stay in the same range. It starts at around $36,500.
