2019 Toyota Highlander: Design, Hybrid, Release Date

The families who are seeking for a safe, spacious, and cozy mid-size SUV, the Toyota Highlander should be the first on the list of choices. The 2017 model year has been fully reworked with new exterior design, the New, stronger V-6, and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. As well, there is the new SE trim, more safety equipment, and the long-awaited hybrid engine under its hood. So, the 2018 model year has carried over with no changes this time. However, we are also expecting the next version of this model, the 2019 Toyota Highlander.

The 2019 model year will join the SUV market with any substantial upgrades since it is still relatively new. It can carry up to eight passengers, which makes it ideal for families and trips. The safety is on the highest level and it is rated with excellent safety scores. This three-row crossover is powered by a strong V-6 engine but if you’re looking for a more efficient variant, the Highlander also offers a hybrid powertrain. The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are still not available but we are hoping to finally see it in the 2019 version.

Engines and performances of the 2019 Toyota Highlander

The 2019 Toyota Highlander will inherit the same options as the outgoing model. The base is a 2.7-liter inline-4 which is rated at 185 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. This engine works with a 6-speed automatic transmission and it gets 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The stronger variant is a 3.5-liter V-6. This one is able to make 295 horses and 263 lb-ft of torque. Depending on a trim level, this unit is rated at around 20/26 mpg. As well, it is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Furthermore, there is a hybrid powertrain also and combines a 3.5-liter V-6 with electric motors. All together, they can generate 306 horsepower. In the LE trim, it gets 30/28 mpg while in the higher trims it is estimated to be 29/27 mpg. The front-wheel drive is standard on all models, and the all-wheel drive system is optional.

Exterior and interior

According to the latest reports, there shouldn’t be any changes in the exterior design of the 2019 Toyota Highlander. It will most likely keep it conventional SUV shape, massive grille, and elongated headlamps.

We could say the same thing for the interior of the newest Highlander and everything should remain as it is. It is a three-row crossover with an ability to accommodate up to eight passengers. It is available in various trim levels which are all well equipped.

The base LE comes standard with a 6.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Toyota’s Entune audio system, Bluetooth, cloth upholstery, a power driver’s seat etc. The Toyota Safety Sense-P package is also standard and includes active lane control, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. The higher trims will add three-zone climate control, a JBL audio system, leather upholstery, 119-inch alloys, a moonroof, navigation, and so on.
