Not only is it a great family hauler, but also an impeccable off-roader, the legendary Jeep Grand Cherokee has been announced to hit the world’s market as the 2019 model year. However, the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee will probably be a carryover and a major refresh is set for the 2020 model year. The 2018 model year also hasn’t changed much. But it has been upgraded with the new Trackhawk model which is powered by the same engine as the Dodge Hellcat which can make even 707 horses. As well, the current version has also been upgraded with the new 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. However, the base model comes with the new 7.0-inch screen and active noise cancellation. As well, there is also the new Sterling package.
Like we have said, the 2019 model year will most likely arrive unchanged and it will be available in several trim levels. Those are Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, Trailhawk, SRT, and the Trackhawk. There will be five engines available which will depend on a trim level.
2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee engines and performances
When it comes to the engine, the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee will retain the same options. So, the base model will include a 3.6-liter V-6 engine which delivers 295 horses and 260 pound-feet of torque. The next is a 5.7-liter V-8 with the output of 360 hp and the torque of 390 lb-ft.
Furthermore, there is also a diesel variant. It is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel which is able to produce 240 ponies and 420 pound-feet of torque. The SRT trim level will be powered by a 6.4-liter V-8 which is capable of making 475 hp. The Trackhawk uses the same engine but with supercharges. And this powertrain can generate up to 707 horses and 645 pound-feet of torque.
All the engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive is standard but the all-wheel drive configuration is also available. The base model gets 19/26/21 mpg while the diesel is rated at 25 mpg combined. The higher trim levels are much less efficient.
Exterior and interior design of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee
We probably won’t see any changes in the external design of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It will feature the recognizable bold look which combines traditional and modern. It is pretty much the same for the interior design as well. The Grand Cherokee can accommodate up to five passengers and it provides a good cargo space of 36.3 cubic feet. The dashboard is equipped with the standard 7.0-inch screen with Uconnect infotainment while the higher trims get an 8.0-inch touchscreen.
The standard equipment includes air conditioning, cloth upholstery, power locks, mirrors, and windows, a rearview camera, an AM/FM/CD audio system, keyless entry, 17-inch alloys, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. The Overland adds Nappa leather, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, navigation, Alpine sound system with 9 speakers, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats etc. The higher trims will also arrive with Harmon Kardon system with 19 speakers, blind spot monitors, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, parking assist and many other more.
Release date and price
The carmaker hasn’t announced yet when the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee will go on sale. The price will stay in the similar range as the current. It will be between $32,000-$87,000 depending on the powertrain and equipment richness.
