Lately, we could hear the rumors about the comeback of the all-new 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer which will represent the next generation model. Naturally, it should be completely overhauled with a more modern styling, upgraded, quieter, and more luxurious cabin, premium technology, and a new lighter architecture. As well, besides the expected V-6 and V-8 engines, the Grand Wagoneer should also offer the new hybrid engine under the hood.
Engines and performances of the all-new 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Perhaps it is still too early to confirm what types of engines will power the recently announced 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. However, we have heard some information about possible units. So, we assume that the next generation Grand Wagoneer will be available with several units. And those will include V-6, V-8, and diesel engines. Therefore, the base model will most likely arrive with a 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engine. As well, the Grand Wagoneer should get a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel too.
Furthermore, the manufacturer will also fit it with the stronger V-8 engines. So, the one could be a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with the output of around 360 horses. As well, the stronger option is going to be a 6.2-liter V-8 Hellcat powertrain. This one will probably power the range-topping Trackhawk model. This unit is able to deliver up to 719 horses (536 kWh). And it will be linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, since the Jeep automaker has revealed its plan to built 10 plug-in hybrid models and 4 all-electric vehicles by the year of 2022, the next generation 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is very likely to get a plug-in hybrid engine as well, at least at some point in future. At the moment, the carmaker has only one hybrid model in the lineup. And it is the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler which features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system under its hood. Moreover, the all-wheel drive system is expected to be standard in all the trim levels.
As well, according to some sources, the Grand Wagoneer should also receive the brand-new six-cylinder engine. Unfortunately, we don’t have any further details about type and performance for now.
Design of exterior and platform
As the Jeep Wagoneer, the larger 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is expected to share the same body-in-frame platform which is also found in the Ram 1500 model. And since this is the all-new frame compared to the previous version, and it is lighter, longer, a more economical because it is mostly made of high strength steel, this will reduce the weight for around 100 pounds. So, we expect the same for the upcoming Grand Wagoneer. However, that it not all. It will also share the new next-generation air suspension and the electronic-locking rear differential which is also found in the newest Ram 1500.
Design-wise, the 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer should borrow some similar design cues from the Jeep Grand Cherokee. They are both full-size SUVs but the Grand Wagoneer is going to be even larger, taller and wider than the Grand Cherokee. The front fascia will most likely receive the familiar seven-slat grille and similar headlamps as in the Cherokee. So, the whole front end will get a more aggressive appearance. The headlamps will feature the brand’s latest LED dot pattern as well. Furthermore, the rear end should also be inspired by the Grand Cherokee. It will be visible in the design of the taillights, dual exhaust outlets, and a massive bumper. The taillights should also be equipped with the same LED dot pattern.
The interior design and equipment of the 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
For now, there are still no any photos or official details about the cabin of the brand-new 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. However, as expected it should arrive with more modern, more quality, and a more luxurious interior. As for the seating configuration, the Grand Wagoneer should come standard with three rows of seats. And the smaller Wagoneer is expected to be offered with a two-row seating. So, the new Jeep should be able to welcome up to seven or eight passengers.
The dashboard will also be revised and will be more modern with the latest 12.1-inch Uconnect touchscreen display which should get the split-screen capability. As well, it is also said that it will come with the new UConnect HUD or heads-up display. The Grand Wagoneer will feature the rear UConnect Theatre package, also used available in the Chrysler Pacifica and motion activated liftgate.
Arrival, expected price, and competition of the 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Alongside the Wagoneer model, the 2020 Jeep Grand Wagoneer should arrive sometime during next year. We assume that it could be in late 2019. However, this information is not yet official. We also don’t have the exact information of its price, but its range-topping model could reach the price of $120,000. Its main rivals will include Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and so on.
