2024 Nissan Armada Is Getting New Engine and Maybe More

The current generation of Nissan’s full-size SUV may be capable, but it is also extremely thirsty. That’s why the latest reports suggest big changes under the hood of the 2024 Nissan Armada. From what we know so far, Nissan will go in the same direction as most other carmakers did – downsizing. It looks like the current V8 will be replaced with a twin-turbo V6. Unfortunately, details about the new engine are still unavailable, so we could only speculate about the specs at the moment.

However, it is still unclear if changes under the hood will be the only ones. Some sources suggest a full redesign, and others suggest a major refresh. In any case, we are pretty sure that there will be more novelties than just the powertrain. We presume more details will come in the following months, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate about the 2024 Nissan Armada’s dsign and features at this point.

2024 Nissan Armada Is Getting New Engine

Redesigned or not, the 2024 Nissan Armada will come with a new engine and that will certainly be one of the most important changes. The current 5.6-liter V8 is capable, but also the thirstiest in the class, so there is no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer will have to go for something more efficient to remain competitive on the market.

That will most certainly be a twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Details are still unavailable but some sources suggest a 3.5-liter unit. Others suggest a turbocharged variant of the 3.8-liter V6 that currently powers the Frontier in a naturally-aspirated form. In any case, we presume that the new Armada will tend to match the numbers of Toyota’s turbo V6. Therefore, the max output should be similar to the current V6, around 400 horsepower, but on the other hand, with expect to see significantly more torque, probably around 480.

We also count on a new transmission, probably a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

Fuel Economy

Of course, the biggest benefit from the engine swap would be improved fuel economy. The current V8 returns no more than 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway, while 4WD models are even thirstier. We presume that the new V6 would offer notable improvement, with ratings that are typical for a V6-powered full-size SUV, which would be around 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.

2024 Nissan Armada Design

As we’ve just mentioned, there are two kinds of rumors about the 2024 Nissan Armada. One of them suggests just an update. This makes a lot of sense, especially if we consider that the current model was refreshed for the 2022 model year, when it received a completely new styling, with a way more attractive front end and other parts. Moreover, notable changes were introduced to the inside as well. This suggests that there is still a couple of good years for the Armada before it gets a full redesign.

However, rumors about the full redesign also make sense. The current generation may be around since 2017, but it actually features a design that’s the same as on the Y62 Patrol, which has been around since 2010. For that reason, some strongly believe that this SUV is due for a full redesign.

If the full redesign happens, we presume that the changes wouldn’t be radical. The new generation would continue to ride on the F-Alpha platform, but presume it would get a more refined suspension and chassis setup, to provide better ride quality. Some sources also suggest an off-road version, which would offer all kinds of upgrades, such as locking differentials, off-road suspension etc.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, the 2022 update brought some updates, particularly in terms of the new infotainment screen. The rest of the cabin looks a little bit old but on the other hand, the build quality and materials are pretty impressive, mainly because of the fact that many parts are shared with the Infiniti QX80.

2024 Nissan Armada Interior

Of course, a lot of things will depend on the rumored redesign. If it happens, we will also see a new cab. If not, we will see the same cabin, maybe with some minor tweaks. In either case, we will be satisfied with the interior, mainly because of the very good build quality.

When it comes to passenger space, the current model comes with three rows of seats. The first two are very comfortable, while the third is also quite useful. The cargo area offers around 16.5 cubic feet of room behind the third row, 49.9 cubic feet with the third row folded and 92.6 cubic feet in total.

2024 Nissan Armada Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Nissan Armada will arrive sometime late this year. The current model starts at around 51.000 dollars and we don’t expect to see significant changes in the next year.
