2024 Nissan Patrol Redesign: What We Know So Far

With the recent redesign of the Land Cruiser, the Patrol has remained by far the oldest SUV on the market. Widely popular in parts of the world like the Middle East and Australia, this SUV has gained a status of a dependable and highly capable off-roader. However, it looks like it’s time for changes. The current generation has been around for 13 years and it’s about time to see changes. According to the latest reports, they will come already in the next year, with the 2024 Nissan Patrol, which is expected to receive a complete redesign.

A test mule of what’s believed to be the next Patrol has been spotted in the Middle East. It still wears a complete camouflage, so it’s hard to talk about things like aesthetics or chassis updates. On the other hand, there are rumors about the new powertrain, whereas the old V8 would be replaced with a twin-turbo V6. Moreover, we also heard from the officials that the new Patrol could accommodate a hybrid powertrain as well.

The all-new 2024 Nissan Patrol is expected to arrive by the end of 2023.

2024 Nissan Patrol Engine

As we’ve just mentioned, one of the biggest novelties of this redesign would be the new engine. We are pretty sure that Nissan is going to do the same thing, to replace the old 5.6-liter V8 with a smaller twin-turbo engine. Namely, although capable and highly reliable, the old V8 is also extremely thirsty and while that probably doesn’t play important role in the Middle East market, it’s important in Australia, where gas prices are much higher. Still, the benefits of the turbocharged engine aren’t just in terms of efficiency – it should also provide more torque, which is very very important for a large and heavy vehicle like this.

Some sources speculate about the engine from the new 400Z. Although a fantastic engine, this 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 probably wouldn’t be enough for the Patrol, mainly because of the lack of torque. Therefore, a scenario of an updated and upgraded 3.5-liter V6 found in Pathfinder, upgraded with turbochargers, would be a much better solution. Some sources even suggest the 2024 Nissan Patrol could come with a turbocharged variant of the 3.8-liter V6, which debuted a few years ago in Frontier, which also makes a lot of sense.

What About Hybrid Powertrain?

Not long ago, we heard pretty interesting words from Nissan officials, who stated that the new e-Power hybrid system is scalable and that they see no reason why it wouldn’t be adapted for a large vehicle like Patrol as well. This clearly indicates that the company has plans for Patrol electrification as well. However, we didn’t have a chance to hear anything more specific, so it’s hard to talk about numbers at the moment.

On the other hand, the basic technical approach would be the same, with a setup that includes two or more electric motors and an engine that acts as a generator. In this case, we also expect that the e-4ORCE system would be part of the standard equipment, as an integrated electric 4WD system that should ensure excellent off-road potential.

Fuel Economy

At this point, it’s hard to talk about numbers. However, we have no doubt that the new powertrains, both gasoline and hybrid, will be way more efficient than the V8-powered Patrol. For reference, the current Patrol consumes over 14 L/100km in a combined ride.

2024 Nissan Patrol Design

Of course, this redesign will bring much more than just a new powertrain. Codenamed Y63, this model will probably ride on a heavily updated F-Alpha platform, with significant chassis and suspension upgrades. It should be more rugged but also lighter, while the suspension setup should be more refined and provide better on-road manners, without sacrificing off-road performance.

In terms of the exterior design, the test mule still wears complete camouflage, so it’s hard to talk about details. On the other hand, we presume that the overall shape won’t change much and that the new model won’t change drastically in size. Naturally, new aesthetics are expected, based on the brand’s latest design language.

A completely new interior design is also expected, with a new dashboard design, finer materials and more tech features. Considering that the overall size probably won’t change much, we may presume that the amount of passenger and cargo space will also remain pretty similar.

2024 Nissan Patrol Release Date

We expect that the all-new 2024 Nissan Patrol could arrive by the end of this year.
