The manufacturer has already presented a concept model of the full-size Telluride a couple of years ago. However, the all-new 2020 Kia Telluride has been caught on the streets during its testing and we could notice some changes compared to the concept version. It will keep its three-row seating configurations and it might be offered with several engine options.
Engines and performances of the new 2020 Kia Telluride
At the moment, we don’t have the precise information about the engine which will power the all-new 2020 Kia Telluride. And it is not yet confirmed whether the new full-size SUV Telluride will be offer with one single unit or perhaps we can expect several engine options. So, to start with the concept model which has been presented to the world and this model has been powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine combined with an electric motor. Unfortunately, the carmaker hasn’t revealed the size or capacity if the battery. However, they claim that this engine is able to deliver 270 horses while the electric motor has the output of 130 hp.
So, this means that they both together are able to make 400 horses. And the engine will power the front wheels while the electric motor will turn the rear wheels. So, the all-wheel drive system is standard while the torque is still unknown.
On the other hand, according to some news, the new 2020 Kia Telluride should use a 3.3-liter V-6 engine which in the Kia Sorento LX is able to develop 290 horses and it is able to tow up to 3,500 pounds. However, the Telluride should provide better performance, so it will be able to make 365 horses and the torque of 376 pound-feet. The rear-wheel drive system should be standard.
Furthermore, the latest news claim that the base engine of the 2020 Kia Telluride could be a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine which is also found in the base trims of the Kia Sorento. As well, we also assume that we might see a 2.0-liter turbo-4 unit which is stronger than the previously mentioned unit.
The platform and exterior design of the 2020 Kia Telluride
First of all, we have heard the rumors for the platform of the upcoming 2020 Kia Telluride, and it is very possible that it will be underpinned with the K900’s rear-wheel drive platform. As for the dimensions, the Telluride will be several inches longer and wider than the mid-size SUV Kia Sorento.
Speaking of the external design, the 2020 Kia Telluride has been spotted during its testing wearing heavy camouflage. But despite the coverings we have been able to see the familiar boxy shape of the concept model. However, compared to the design of the concept version, there will be several differences.
So, the front fascia will wear the same tiger-nose grille but the quad-LED headlamps will get a more rectangular shape and will be more vertical. There will also be subtle stinger-like vents placed in the corner of the front end. Moving to the profile of the vehicle, it seems that the roof will get a more curved shape and the rear door handles has been removed to the rear of the door. Furthermore, the rearview mirrors and grab handles will feature leather trim. As well, both front and rear bumpers will feature a unique design depending on a trim level.
As for the rear end of the vehicle, the taillights will be placed the same as the ones on the concept model although they seem less modern and will be wider. As well, there are the same dual exhaust outlets, but the large chrome trim on the concept version probably won’t be offered in the production model. There should also be a spare tire mounted to the rear hatch and we can expect the large 20-inch wheels.
The interior design of the 2020 Kia Telluride
Since the 2020 Kia Telluride will be the brand largest SUV in the offer, we can expect the same its interior. Therefore, the cabin of the 2020 Kia Telluride will be very spacious and will feature three rows of seats. We can expect premium materials and the highest level of comfort. The production model will be able to place up to eight passengers, and will get two bench seats out back. The front seats will be very cozy and modern. The dashboard will be wide but slightly smaller than the one of the concept and will be equipped with a large screen for the infotainment system. According to the automaker, the new Kia will get the latest technology, many driver assist systems, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and so as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Release date and price
The new 2020 Kia Telluride should enter the showrooms in early 2019. Its price is not yet known, but it is expected to be in a range between $30,000 and $50,000.
