After the 2022 mid-cycle update and the recent upgrade of the hybrid version, it is expected that the current generation of Volvo’s compact crossover remains in production for some more time. We estimate that there are a few more years before a full redesign, which is a clear indicator that the 2024 Volvo XC60 is going to be a typical carryover model. We expect to see a familiar design, with minimal changes.
This means that we count on an SUV that has a lot of great things to offer. Of course, we like the XC60’s capable powertrain options, along with one of the nicest cabins in the class. Furthermore, both passenger and cargo areas are very spacious, while the lists of standard and available equipment are pretty generous. The ride is comfortable, while the sound insulation is very good, so it’s pretty hard to find a major drawback on this model.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2024 Volvo XC60 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of 2023.
2024 Volvo XC60 Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Volvo XC60 is expected to be a typical carryover model. This means the same overall design that was introduced five years ago. Of course, keep in mind the last year’s update, which brought very subtle styling changes. The car looks very elegant with its smooth and round surfaces, compared to most rivals that rather practice sharper edges and more aggressive aesthetics.
In terms of mechanics, the car is based on the company’s well-known SPA platform. We like the chassis and suspension setups because this SUV is all about cruising. The suspension setup is soft and the ride is smooth and comfortable. At the same time, there isn’t much body roll and you actually get a bit of athleticism, especially if you opt for all-wheel drive.
The same thing is with interior design, where we also expect to see a familiar layout. The XC60 looks very elegant on the inside, with clean lines and a classic design approach. This particularly refers to the dashboard, which is complemented by a vertically-oriented infotainment screen and several more tech features that make everything look even more upscale. The materials, attention to detail and overall build quality are great, some of the best in the class.
Besides great quality, the 2024 Volvo XC60’s cabin will also offer plenty of space. Both rows are very generous with leg and headroom and accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the front seats are massive and comfortable, some of the best in the class. The cargo area offers around 22.4 cubic feet of room behind the back row and 63.3 cubic feet in total, which is excellent for a compact luxury SUV.
We might see some updates in this aspect but most things should remain unchanged. Therefore, base models should come standard with goodies like a 9-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker stereo, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, Bluetooth, Google-based navigation, a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, remote keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control and a panoramic moonroof. You can also opt for upgrades like a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, quad-zone automatic climate control etc.
When it comes to safety features, all models should come with goodies like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, rain-sensing wipers etc. Also, there are upgrades like a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, head-up display etc.
2024 Volvo XC60 Engines
This aspect will certainly remain the same. Therefore, base models will continue with a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which comes in pair with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and delivers a total output of 247 horsepower. The same engine is available with both turbocharged and supercharged. In that case, the max output goes up to 295 horsepower.
Of course, there is also the hybrid version, which has been upgraded recently. The system is still based on the same supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine but now comes with a bigger battery. The max output is now rated at 455 horsepower, while the max range in the EV model now goes around 35 miles.
All units come coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The base engine offers pretty good fuel economy, which goes around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The optional supercharged version is thirstier and returns around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, which is pretty typical for the segment. Finally, there is the plug-in hybrid, which returns around 28 mpg combined in hybrid mode, as well as 63 mpg-e in the all-electric mode. Also, this version provides around 35 miles of range in the EV mode.
2024 Volvo XC60 Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Volvo XC60 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 45.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Acura RDX etc.
