2024 Honda Pilot Redesign: Changes, Engines, Release Date, Hybrid, Trailsport

The new generation of the popular mid-size crossover is on the way. The test mule has already been spotted a couple of times and it looks like it is in the final stage of development. The 2024 Honda Pilot still wears a cover but we can say that the Japanese manufacturer prepares a completely new design. The current model has been around since 2016, so we might see some important technical updates as well, including the new powertrain, which may get electrified.

In any case, this redesign will help the Pilot remain one of the most relevant players in the segment. It will come with all kinds of novelties, starting from a completely new exterior design, which will look bolder and more rugged than before. Furthermore, the cabin will be all new as well, while the longer wheelbase promises more passenger room.

The exact launch date is still unknown but we believe that the 2024 Honda Pilot could arrive already in the first half of 2023.

2024 Honda Pilot Redesign

The new generation of Honda’s mid-size SUV will come after seven years, which is a pretty typical production cycle for the Japanese manufacturer. This redesign will bring novelties in various aspects, starting with new mechanics. Of course, we expect to see a new chassis and suspension setup, which will have a highly positive impact on ride quality. So far, this SUV was rather smooth and comfortable than engaging to drive, so we presume that the next generation won’t change its character much.

Naturally, one of the biggest changes will be the new exterior design. As you may presume, many parts will be shared with the recently-redesigned Acura MDX, which means that the new 2024 Honda Pilot should also feature bigger dimensions, including a 2.5-inch longer wheelbase.

When it comes to styling, the test mule still wears camouflage. Still, we can see that it will feature a bolder look, thanks to the massive, upright grille and a new set of sharper and narrower headlights before. Moreover, the company also prepares the TrailSport version, which will bring a few off-road upgrades, such as a 1.0-inch lift, steel skid plates, all-terrain tires, a hill-descent control system, a specially tuned AWD system etc.

Interior

Of course, we also expect to see a completely new interior design. At this point, details are still unknown but we are pretty sure that the new model will come with a completely new dashboard design, which will utilize nicer materials, more attractive aesthetics and better build quality, even though the outgoing generation has already been known for very good interior quality. Of course, we also count on lot of new tech goodies, starting from a new infotainment system with a bigger screen, new connectivity features, new convenience features, new driver-assistance features etc.

Considering the longer wheelbase, we will probably see a little bit more legroom than before. The overall seating configuration will remain the same, so we will see three rows of seats, where even the third row should be quite comfortable and functional. The Pilot has always been known for impressive cargo capacity. So, we expect nothing less from the next generation.

2024 Honda Pilot Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, most reports suggest that the 3.5-liter V6 would carry on. The current version puts out around 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, but the new one may get a little bit more power, probably around 290 hp. On the other hand, we expect to see a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

Some sources also speculate about the turbo V6, which powers the Acura MDX Type S. With extra power and torque, the new Pilot would be able to compete with more powerful rivals, such as Ford Explorer and Grand Cherokee.

Finally, we can find reports that suggest the new 2024 Honda Pilot would also come with a hybrid powertrain. That setup would probably be based on a four-cylinder engine.

Fuel Economy

At this point, it is still early to talk about efficiency. The only thing we could say is that the base V6 would feature similar fuel economy to the current generation, which returns around 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Those are typical ratings for the segment.

2024 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price

We expect that the next-generation 2024 Honda Pilot will arrive sometime in the first half of 2023, with a starting price of around 38.000 dollars.
