The current and the only generation of this subcompact crossover has been around for nearly a decade. It was introduced way back in 2013 and we haven’t seen significant changes seen that, despite a couple of updates. The overall layout is still the same but that could change soon if we can trust the latest reports. Namely, it looks like the Trax is finally about to get a full redesign. The new generation is expected to hit the market in the next year, as the 2024 Chevy Trax, though we are still waiting for the official confirmation.
At this point, not many things are known about the next-generation Trax. Still, some things are easy to predict, starting from the new platform and the new overall layout. We also expect new powertrain options and while most sources speculated about the same units as in the TrailBlazer, we won’t exclude the possibility to see some sort of electrification either.
2024 Chevy Trax Design
The 2024 Chevy Trax is about to get a full redesign, according to the latest reports. It will happen after almost a decade, so we have no doubt it will bring a lot of novelties. The first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Instead of the old Gamma II architecture, the new model should ride on the new VSS-F platform, which also underpins the aforementioned TrailBlazer. Naturally, we count on various improvements, including ride quality, as well as a whole bunch of new technologies.
With this architecture, a lot of new possibilities will open up, starting from the ability to use different more modern powertrain options. Also, it will allow the new model to use the latest tech features, including many advanced driving-assistance systems, which are currently unavailable.
Naturally, we count on a new exterior design, which should bring Chevy’s latest design philosophy. With new aesthetics, the 2024 Chevy Trax will certainly be more appealing and more able to attract a wide range of potential buyers. However, we also expect that this model will differentiate from the aforementioned TrailBlazer, considering that the two models compete in the same segment. We presume that this one could get a little bit bigger, which would make it more spacious and more practical on the inside.
Another important aspect is the ride quality. The current model features a pretty simple suspension setup, which provides decent handling but a pretty firm ride. We expect that GM engineers will do something about this and offer a little bit softer setup, which would make this crossover more capable of dealing with road imperfections.
The current model looks pretty outdated from the inside. It features an old design, with mostly hard plastics and other low-rent materials, while it’s also easy to notice the lack of modern features. This should all change with the 2024 Chevy Trax interior, which should bring a way more upscale look. This particularly refers to the dashboard design. It should bring a more attractive shape, along with nicer materials, better ergonomics, and more tech features. Speaking of the tech features, we count on a new infotainment system, with a bigger screen and more modern software, as well as modern connectivity features.
As we’ve just mentioned, the next generation might feature slightly bigger dimensions, which could also affect the interior space. Still, the current generation already stands pretty well in this aspect, so the improvements will probably be minor. Still, we would like to see new seats, with better support and improved driving position. The second row would bring slightly more space, while we also count on a little bit more cargo room.
2024 Chevy Trax Engine Options
The switch to the VSS-F platform would bring new engine options to the table. Instead of the current 1.4-liter turbo-four, we would probably see the new three-cylinder turbo units. One of them features 1.2 liters in displacement and puts out 137 horsepower. The other one is a 1.3-liter unit, which features a max output of 155 horsepower. Interestingly, base models come with a CVT, while models with all-wheel-drive bring a 9-speed automatic transmission to the table.
With the new engines, we presume that the redesigned 2024 Chevy Trax will bring some improvements regarding fuel economy. The current model returns around 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Those are rather subpar ratings for the class. On the other hand, the new generation would probably feature similar ratings to the Trailblazer, which is notably more efficient, especially in urban conditions. The smaller unit returns around 29 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway, while the bigger engine is even more efficient, with 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The new Trax should feature pretty similar numbers.
2024 Chevy Trax Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2024 Chevy Trax in the first half of 2023, with a slightly higher starting price compared to the outgoing model, which starts at around 22.000 dollars.
