The current generation of the iconic SUV has been around since 2021 and the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will represent the fourth production year. Therefore, it’s no wonder that the company already works on the update. From what we know, this will be a typical mid-cycle refresh, with changes in various aspects. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and it shows a lot of camouflage, which indicates a lot of styling updates.
Besides exterior changes, the next year’s Suburban should also bring various changes to the inside, including an altered dashboard design, with a new infotainment system and other upgrades. Naturally, more tech and convenience features are also expected. On the other hand, the powertrain lineup will probably remain untouched.
We presume that the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Chevrolet Suburban Design
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. The test mule still wears camouflage, so we can’t talk about details. Still, we know that the new model will get a new, two-tier headlights design, as well as a new grille, new bumper etc. The rear end also wears camouflage, so we presume there are some novelties to come as well.
On the other hand, the mechanical aspect of the vehicle is about to remain the same. This SUV rides on a modern T1 platform, with a lot of modern technical solutions, including standard rear independent suspension and optional adjustable air suspension. The latter can increase ground clearance to 10 inches, which is highly beneficial in terms of off-road performance. Speaking of off-road performance, the Z71 trim also adds goodies like a limited-slip rear differential, all-terrain tires etc. The on-road manners are also pretty good, with a smooth and comfortable ride.
The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban interior is also about to get some updates. The test mule runs with a covered dashboard, which indicates an altered design. At this point, we don’t know the details but it looks like the new model will feature an in-dash infotainment screen, with a design similar to the new Cadillac Escalade, where the infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster are integrated into the same panel. Furthermore, we expect to see further improvements in terms of build quality, with nicer materials, more attention to detail etc.
On the other hand, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. With 134 inches in wheelbase, the Suburban is among the largest SUVs around, so it’s no wonder that all three rows are spacious and accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the cargo area is also among the biggest in the class, with 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind its third-row seats, 93.8 cubic feet with these seats folded and 144.7 cubic feet of the total cargo volume
Naturally, this update will also bring some novelties in terms of standard and available equipment, though it’s still early to talk about details. For reference, the current model comes standard with an 8-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six USB ports, satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo, a Wi-Fi hot spot, keyless entry, push-button start, remote start and tri-zone automatic climate control. Among options, you can find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.2-inch touch screen, wireless device charging, panoramic sunroof, nine- and 10-speaker stereos and a rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch touch screens.
In terms of safety, all models come standard with a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams etc. Also, there are upgrades like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, safety alert seat, Super Cruise etc.
2024 Chevrolet Suburban Engines
Updates should happen in many aspects but the powertrain is about to remain the same. The 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will continue with three familiar powertrain options. Base versions will continue to use a 5.3-liter V8, which puts out around 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. While that’s enough for decent performance, we find the optional 6.2-liter V8 a much better choice. It features a max output of around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and offers notably better driving dynamics.
Both engines are pretty capable and pretty refined, but they are also quite thirsty. Therefore, Chevy also offers a diesel version, equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel, which puts out around 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
The respectable amount of torque ensures good driving dynamics, while fuel ratings are unparalleled in this segment. In numbers, that would be 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The base V8 is good for about 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, while the more capable 6.2-liter unit is slightly thirstier and returns around 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
2024 Chevrolet Suburban Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Chevrolet Suburban will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 56.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Ford Expedition Max, Toyota Sequoia etc.
