Audi’s new generation of this compact crossover is on the way. The test mule has been spotted several times and it is expected to arrive by the end of this year. What’s interesting about the new generation is that this will be the last Q5 with internal combustion engines. After that, the whole Audi lineup will go all-electric. However, even the upcoming model won’t be run on gasoline only. Each version is expected to be electrified, in some portion. So, the 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid will come in different variants, including both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options.
Of course, there are many more things to come with this redesign. The new model will bring novelties and improvements in various aspects, starting from the new styling, new interior design, new tech features etc. If we can trust unofficial reports, the next-generation Q5 should arrive in North America sometime in the first half of the next year.
2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid Design
Let’s start with the most basic things about the 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid. First of all, there is the matter of platform and from what we know so far, the new model will bring a kind of evolution of the current design. The new model will bring all kinds of upgrades and one of the things that come to mind first is the suspension. Simply, the current setup feels a little bit outdated and inferior compared to GLC and X3 models, so we expect to see a little bit more refined setup, which would make the ride quality more competitive.
Besides the new suspension, we count on the new chassis, which should be lighter and which should lower the center of gravity. Thanks to that, the handling should be better as well, while we also expect to see some improvements regarding efficiency.
Of course, this redesign will also bring a completely new exterior design. In terms of size, we don’t expect to see notable changes. The wheelbase, as well as the overall length, should remain largely similar, though the new model might feature a slightly wider track, which would impact the overall stability.
Naturally, we count on a new styling. At this point, the test mule still wears camouflage, so it’s hard to talk about details. Still, we can see that the overall shape won’t change drastically. Another thing we’ve noticed is a little bit different approach to the tailgate design, as there are no wrapped taillights anymore. Also, you can notice a nice dual-exhaust setup down there.
Still, the biggest novelties will come to the front end, where we expect Audi to implement the brand’s latest design language. The 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid should bring a conservative design approach, with a few modern touches.
At this point, it’s still early to talk about interior design. We haven’t found spy shots of the interior yet but we can only imagine that the new dashboard will bring a more modern look, though which a typical Audi design approach, which is largely a combination of conservative design solutions and modern tech features. The Q5 has always been characterized by the great build quality, so we expect nothing less from the new model.
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generations shouldn’t feature more significant changes regarding interior space. That’s shouldn’t be an issue, considering that the current already stands pretty well in this aspect. It accommodates adult passengers in both rows with ease, while the cargo area also offers pretty decent ratings for the class.
2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid Powertrain
As we already mentioned, the new generation will come with several hybrid powertrain on offer. most likely, base versions will feature a mild-hybrid setup. We presume that could be a setup that includes a small 48v electric motor that brings a little bit of extra torque and improves efficiency. The core of the setup would be the same 2.0-liter turbo-four, which currently comes in two output variants, with either 201 or 261 horsepower. We presume that these numbers could go a little bit higher in the new generation.
The 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid will also come in a plug-in hybrid setup. We expect to see further evolution of the familiar system, which currently includes a single electric motor and 17.9-kWh battery pack. The max output currently goes around 362 horsepower, which is enough to move this SUV from zero to sixty in about five seconds. The new model should be even more powerful and quicker. Moreover, we expect to see a bigger battery and better EV range as well.
When it comes to fuel economy, we presume that the mild hybrid setup would bring slight improvements to the current turbo-four. With this engine, the current generation returns around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway and we count on slight improvements with the new setup.
The current PHEV version returns around 26 mpg in hybrid mode. We expect improvements in this aspect in the new generation, along with an increased all-electric range.
2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2024 Audi Q5 Hybrid sometime in the first half of the next year, with a starting price of around 50.000 dollars.
