The new Grand Vitara is on the way. After so many years, Suzuki will bring back “Grand” to the famous moniker. The new model has been developed by Maruti Suzuki and from what we know so far, it will be primarily designed for the Indian market, as well as for some other Asian and African countries. It will have a lot of things in common with Toyota Urban Cruiser and judging on the dimensions, it will be notably more spacious compared to the standard Vitara.
The new model will share a lot of technology with Toyota, with the Urban Cruiser in particular. Among the shared components, we will also see the hybrid powertrain, which should make this crossover pretty efficient. Also, we can notice a completely new interior, which looks way more upscale compared to the previous Vitara models. The new model should hit the market in the next few months.
2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara Design
The 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara will come as a completely new model and it won’t have too many things in common with the current generation Vitara, which has been around since 2015. The new model will share most of the parts with Toyota Urban Cruiser, which was also developed by Maruti Suzuki. Compared to the current-generation Vitara, the new model will be notably bigger. It will feature a 100 mm longer wheelbase, as well as more than 150 mm in overall length. All this should ensure way more space on the inside, especially when it comes to the second-row legroom.
Mechanically, things won’t be all that different. Just like most Suzuki models, this model will also rely on proven technologies. Therefore, the suspension setup will be rather simple, with a typical McPherson strut at the front and a torsion beam on the rear end. Also, the rear brakes will feature classic solid discs, while the front ones will be ventilated.
When it comes to the exterior design, we already mentioned that the new model will be notably bigger than Vitara. It will also feature significantly different aesthetics, whether it’s about the front or rear end. On the other hand, the overall shape will come in a typical SUV manner, which is a body style that generally can’t bring bigger surprises.
The front end will be characterized by a way more futuristic look, which separated the lighting group and a massive grille, as well as a lot of chrome details. The rear end will also come with some pretty interesting details, such as the new lighting bar that spreads from one to the other taillight.
The interior will also be completely new and the first thing that you’ll notice is that everything looks more upscale than in the Vitara. The materials look much nicer and many surfaces are now soft to the touch. Also, you can notice a lot more tech features, including a pretty massive 9-inch infotainment screen, as well as a 7-inch digital instrument display. Higher trim levels will also come equipped with things like a panoramic roof, two-tone seats, ambient lighting, head-up display, surround-view camera, ventilated seats, rear USB ports etc.
Considering the additional 100 mm in wheelbase, we are pretty sure that the new model will be pretty generous with legroom in the second row, while the front row seems pretty cozy and spacious.
2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, the 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara will be offered in two variants. Base models will use Suzuki’s 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, which will come with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system and a total output of 103 horsepower and 117 pound-feet of torque. This engine will be available with two transmissions, either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while Suzuki’s famous AllGrip AWD will be available.
On the other hand, more expensive versions will come with a full hybrid system, the same one that can be found in the Yaris Hybrid. That means that you may count on a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and a pretty capable electric motor, for a total output of 114 horsepower. Also, this engine will come coupled with an eCVT.
At this point, the company still hasn’t come up with any numbers. We can’t say how efficient the base engine will be but on the other hand, we may presume that the hybrid version will be slightly thirstier than the Yaris Hybrid. The popular subcompact is good for 3.5 L/100 km but the real-world numbers are slightly higher.
