2023 Honda Pilot Redesign: Everything We Know So Far

The popular three-row SUV is about to get a full redesign the next year. The test mule has been spotted a couple of times so far and it looks like the new model will be ready by the end of this year. With this redesign, we expect to see further evolution of one of the most versatile crossover around, which has been famous for its high level of practicality, along with impressive refinement. The new generation will come as the 2023 Honda Pilot.

Despite that the Japanese manufacturer tries to keep most details a secret, we already know what to expect from the next generation. We will see a little bit more passenger and cargo space, thanks to a longer wheelbase. Furthermore, the new generation will bring a more attractive interior design, along with completely new exterior aesthetics. On the other hand, the powertrain probably won’t change, though we count on a new transmission.

As we’ve just mentioned, the new model should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 Honda Pilot Redesign

The upcoming redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties. The test mule has already been spotted and despite that it still wears camouflage, we can see that the new shape looks bolder and more aggressive than before. We can also notice the new, more mature design language at the front, with more conventional design solutions.

One of the most notable changes will be the stretched platform. The new generation will gain 2.8-inches more in the wheelbase and that should provide additional cargo and passenger space.

Naturally, we count on many mechanical novelties, particularly in terms of the chassis and suspension setup. The current generation is rather focused on comfort and offers a really smooth ride. However, we expect that Honda engineers will work a little bit on handling this time and offer a little bit more engaging ride than before.

Interior

Naturally, we also count on a completely new interior design. The current model features great build quality but somehow, the cabin looks too simple and a little bit outdated. That’s why we have big expectations from the 2023 Honda Pilot, which should bring finer materials and a more attractive shape. Of course, we also count on a lot of new tech features, such as a massive infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, new connectivity features etc.

Given the stretched wheelbase, the new generation should offer more legroom than before, even though the outgoing model already stands pretty well in this aspect. The first two rows are spacious and comfortable, while the third row is typically tight for the segment.

The same thing is with the cargo area. Simply, the current generation is already impressive in this aspect, so we don’t expect to see any significant changes. For reference, the current model is good for about 18.5 cubic feet behind the third row, 55.9 cubes behind the second row and 109.2 cubic feet of the total cargo volume.

2023 Honda Pilot Engines

At this point, it looks like the 2023 Honda Pilot will continue with the same powertrain. Of course, we are talking about the good-old 3.5-liter V6, which currently puts out 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, we presume that the new generation would come with a slight power boost but the overall engine layout will remain the same. That’s a great thing to know, considering that we are talking about an engine with an impressive level of refinement.

On the other hand, the change would probably come in terms of transmission. The current 9-speed unit will probably be replaced with the new 10-speed gearbox, which should positively affect on the ride quality, performance and efficiency.

Some sources also speculate about a hybrid version of the new Pilot. Allegedly, that version would feature a new powertrain, based on a turbo-four engine. The officials are still quiet on this matter.

Fuel Economy

Considering that the engine is about to remain the same, we also count on similar numbers in terms of fuel economy. The new transmission and slight weight reduction could bring only minor improvements, but the numbers would remain largely the same. Therefore, base models with the front-wheel drive should be good for about 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. On the other hand, models with all-wheel drive should offer fuel economy of around 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.

2023 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price

The 2023 Honda Pilot is in the advanced stage of development and we believe it will hit the market by the end of this year. When it comes to the price, we expect that base versions should go around 39.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Toyota Highlander, Chevy Traverse, VW Atlas etc.
