For a long time, the Journey moniker was associated with a mid-size three-row SUV, which was in production for more than a decade. That’s not the case anymore, as this SUV was discontinued in 2020. These are different times and the current Journey is neither a three-row SUV nor offered in North America. Instead, the company decided to use the familiar moniker for a completely different model, in a different market. That model has been around for a couple of years and the 2024 Dodge Journey will actually represent the third production year. So far, the model has been sold in Mexico but it looks like the company plans to expand its offer to the whole of Latin America. On the other hand, there are no reports about the new Journey coming to North America.
In any case, the overall design won’t change, no matter the market. This will remain an SUV that’s heavily based on the Chinese model caller Trumpchi GS5. More precisely, this is pretty much a re-badged version of that SUV, with the same design characteristics and minor differences at the front.
As mentioned, the 2024 Dodge Journey might come to other markets but we still don’t expect to see it before the last quarter of the year.
2024 Dodge Journey Design
With all the things being said in the previous paragraphs, we could say that we know what to expect from the next year’s 2024 Dodge Journey. We are about to see a familiar design, which doesn’t have anything in common with the previous generation. Instead, this is just a re-badged version of the aforementioned Trumpchi GS5.
The tight connection between the two models reflects in all aspects, starting from the mechanics. Things are pretty much identical in this aspect, and that also refers to the chassis and suspension setup. That’s definitely a strong point of this SUV, considering that a multi-link rear suspension is part of the standard equipment and the main reason why this SUV offers a balanced ride, with good portions of both athleticism and comfort.
In terms of aesthetics, things are also very similar. The overall shape and styling are the same, while the key difference is at the front, where the 2024 Dodge Journey is about to continue with a little bit different front fascia. Also, we won’t exclude the possibility to see a couple of minor updates for the next year, such as new color options, for example.
Interior
The similarities or, better say “samelarities” are on the inside as well. With the exception of Dodge’s badge on the steering wheel, it’s really hard to find more notably distinctive details. Still, that shouldn’t be taken as a drawback. Simply, Chinese cars are not what they used to be. There are way competitive these days, with designs that can make every competitor run for its money.
So, what you can find on the inside is solid build quality, with very nice materials and a lot of attention to detail. Moreover, the dashboard looks very modern and attractive, with aesthetics that work great in a combination with modern tech features. speaking of the tech features, a 7-inch infotainment screen is part of the standard equipment, while a massive 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is available in more expensive variants.
Unlike the previous three-row model, this is a compact crossover, with significantly less space and just two rows of seats. Still, both rows are generous with space and accommodate adults with ease. The front seats are also quite supportive, while the driving position is good.
2024 Dodge Journey Engines
We expect that the 2024 Dodge Journey will continue with a single powertrain option on offer. That would be a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of around 169 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. These numbers won’t blow your mind but there is actually plenty enough power for decent driving dynamics. Moreover, the engine feels pretty smooth and works great in a combination with a 6-speed automatic transmission from Aisin.
Fuel Economy
This is quite an efficient powertrain that, in a combination with the vehicle’s compact size and lightweight, offers pretty good fuel efficiency. Thanks to selectable drive modes and a start/stop system, you can achieve a pretty impressive 33 miles per gallon.
2024 Dodge Journey Release Date
We expect that the 2024 Dodge Journey will arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year. As mentioned, it could debut in some South American markets as well.
