The Volvo XC40 has been all-new for 2019, but according to the latest news, the manufacturer should introduce the new 2020 Volvo XC40. The newest Volvo is expected to get minimal changes compared to the current model, which will mostly be seen on the technology front and maybe some new colors. Furthermore, it will be available in two variants as before and those areT4 and T5 Models.
Under the hood of the new 2020 Volvo XC40
Since it has been all-new for the 2019 model year, the new 2020 Volvo XC40 won’t feature any changes beneath its hood. So, the XC40 will get on engine option but will feature two outputs. So, the XC40 T5 will be powered by a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine which will have the output of 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It will come with all-wheel drive system as standard. As for the fuel economy, it will get 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
The XC40 T4 will use the same engine. But it will be able to deliver 187 horsepower and the torque of 221 lb-ft. It will be offered with front-wheel drive system only. Furthermore, both engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and will feature an automatic start/stop system.
The exterior design of the 2020 Volvo XC40
Like the 2019 model year, the upcoming 2020 Volvo XC40 will look like a smaller version of its larger siblings, the Volvo XC60 and XC90 models. It features a rugged but at the same time modern appearance. The whole body is dominated by angular lines and sharp edges. The front end will wear the familiar Thor’s hammer headlamps equipped with LED lighting and well-known grille. The R-Design model will get the unique “R-Design” logo. Furthermore, the rear end will get LED taillights, dual exhaust outlets, and the standard power tailgate. The Volvo XC40 will ride on the standard 18-inch wheels. However, the larger 19-inch wheels will be optional. The LED fog lights will also be optional. Moreover, the XC40 Momentum will get a white contrast roof. And the R-Design models will be available with a black roof.
The design of the interior
The cabin of the 2020 Volvo XC40 is functional, nicely designed, and modern. It features two rows of seats, and it can place up to four passengers comfortably. So, the rear seats could accommodate three occupants, but they could feel a bit tight. The driving position is also great. And the front seats are highly comfortable and provide excellent legroom even for taller passengers. As for the rear seats, they also provide sufficient legroom but they lack in shoulder room. When it comes to the cargo room, the XC40 provides the room of 20.7 cubic feet. However, with the rear seats folded down, the cargo space increases to 47.2 cubic feet. Furthermore, the materials used in its design are high quality and the seats are upholstered in leather. There is a 9.0-inch touchscreen on the center of the dashboard for the infotainment system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The equipment and safety of the 2020 Volvo XC40
The 2020 Volvo XC40 will be offered in two versions, the T4 and T5 model which will get a stronger engine. However, both variants will be available in three trim levels. Those will include Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription variants. So, the base Momentum model will come standard with power driver’s seat, LED headlamps, 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, power tailgate, 12.0-inch digital dash display, a 9.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. An AM/FM/HD audio system with 8 speakers, two USB ports, and one USB port in the rear, Wi-Fi hotspot, lane keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking will also be standard.
Furthermore, the R-Design model will add 19-inch wheels, navigation, LED fog lights, sport chassis for better handling, dual-zone climate control, softer leather seats, and an 8-way power-operated passenger seat. The orange-red carpeting will be optional. The range-topping Inscription model will also include a panoramic moonroof, a crystal shift knob, and so on.
The Premium Package for the base model will add 19-inch wheels, a dual-pane sunroof, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and blind-spot monitors. For the R-Design trim, this package adds premium audio, 20-inch wheels, heated steering wheel and heated seats, surround-view camera, and blind spot monitors. The navigation and Harman Kardon audio system will also be available. As for the safety, all the models will get airbags, automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera, forward collision warning, active lane control, and emergency responder notifications.
Release date and price
It is still not said when the 2020 Volvo XC40 will hit the market. However, we are expecting it sometime during next year. The price most likely won’t change from the current and it starts at around $34,200.
