The Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport models are capable, strong, and spacious SUVs which offer a wide range of options and equipment. They look very attractive, offer comfortable and well-equipped interior and are capable off-roaders. However, the latest news indicates that the carmaker is working on the newest version and it is the 2020 Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport. This time, the Discovery could get a new architecture, slightly revised exterior, and a new plug-in hybrid engine.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport
The new 2020 Land Rover Discovery will return with the same V-6 gas and diesel unit. The base will be a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged engine which produces 340 horses and 332 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes with full-time all-wheel drive layout. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. This engine is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
The next is a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged diesel engine. This one is able to generate 254 hp and the torque of 443 pound-feet. It is connected to the same 8-speed automatic and comes with AWD as well. As for the fuel economy, it gets 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
On the other hand, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport will feature a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged unit which makes 237 hp and 251 pound-feet of torque. This engine is rated at 21/25 mpg. However, in the higher trim levels, this engine will have the output of 286 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque. And it will get 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Both engines will work with a 9-speed automatic transmission. And the all-wheel drive system is standard.
Furthermore, according to the latest news, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport should also receive a plug-in hybrid engine as optional. However, we don’t yet have any precise details about a PHEV engine.
Exterior design
The 2020 Land Rover Discovery now features a different design compared to the previous models. It is less boxy and all the edges are more rounded. So, it is clear that the Discovery now shares some styling cues with the Range Rover. The front end features a wide lower opening, thin grille, and elongated headlamps.
Furthermore, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport might get a new platform but this is still under the question mark. The 2020 Land Rover Discovery is a perfect choice for families because of its spacious cabin. It features three rows of seats and it can accommodate seven passengers. However, the base and HSE versions seat five while the third row is optional. Surprisingly, the third row is also suitable for adults. Of course, the front seats will be the best considering comfort. However, the cargo space is not its strongest point with space of 9.1 cubic feet. With the third row folded down, there is a room of 40 cubic feet. But if you fold down the second row also, the Discovery offers the room of almost 83 cubes.
On the other hand, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery is a smaller version of the Discovery and comes with two rows of seats. However, the third row is optional and it is the best for children. The space for the passengers is very generous even for the rear ones. The higher trim levels get more comfortable seats, softer leather, and more options. All versions of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery are equipped with power adjustable front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, keyless ignition, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment, dual-pane fixed sunroofs, and a rearview camera. The higher trim levels will add navigation, premium audio, a 10-inch touchscreen, heated rear seats, three-zone climate control and so on.
The 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport will get an 8.0-inch touchscreen, 8-way power adjustable front seats, audio system with 10 speakers, a rearview camera, leather, 18-inch wheels etc. In the upper trim levels, there will also be upgraded audio, navigation, 19-inch wheels, satellite radio, and several optional packages.
Release date and price of the 2020 Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport
There is still no official information when the 2020 Land Rover Discovery and Discovery Sport will enter the dealerships. We expect the small increase in price compared to the current which starts at $53,000 while the Discovery Sport is around $39,000.
