The Cadillac automaker is testing its all-new SUV which will enter the market as the 2020 Cadillac XT6. The new Cadillac will ride on the extended version of the same platform which underpins the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave. Beneath the hood, it will offer several engines including 6-cylinder units. Inside, it will come with a three-row seating configuration, while the exterior will be inspired by the Escala concept car.
Engines and performances of the 2020 Cadillac XT6
The brand’s newest SUV, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be powered by several types of engines. And we can expect 6-cylinder units to be offered. So, the one will most likely be a 3.6-liter V-6 naturally-aspirated unit. This engine will be able to develop 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. The next option is going to be a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine. This engine will be capable of making around 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Both units are expected to be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. However, some sources claim that the new XT6 could also get an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Furthermore, the all-wheel drive layout should be optional while the rear-wheel drive system should be standard. As well, the Cadillac manufacturer has also introduced the new 4.2-liter V-8 twin-turbo engine. So, this one could also be found on the options list. Moreover, at some point at future, the new XT6 might get a plug-in hybrid engine, but for now, there aren’t any specific details.
The exterior and interior design
First of all, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 won’t be underpinned with the General Motors’ rear-wheel drive Omega architecture, but instead, it will use the same platform which underpins the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave. And it is the extended version of the C1XX platform. So, dimensionally, the new XT6 will stay close to Lexus RX L, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Lincoln Aviator.
As for the exterior design, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be inspired by the Escala Concept car. So, we can expect the similar fascia as the XT4 and CT6 sedan. It will also inherit some similar styling cues from the XT5 but it will feature a lower hood and roof so it will look sleeker. Furthermore, The front end will get a mesh grille, pronounced bumper, and headlamps which are similar to those on the CT6 and XT4 but they will be more horizontal and will get vertical lighting treatment. On the rear, there will be a large glass and vertical taillights.
Inside the cabin, the 2020 Cadillac XT6 will be offered with three rows of seats and will be able to welcome seven of eight passengers. So, the second row should get a traditional bench which will expand the seating configuration to maximum eight. However, it will also be offered with the second-row captain’s chairs which will reduce the seating to seven. The dashboard should get the latest 10.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
Release date and price
The 2020 Cadillac XT6 should make its premiere at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. The price is expected to start at around $50,000.
