With the arrival of the all-new Cadillac Escalade, the carmaker will take the leading position in the full-size luxury SUV segment. It is available in two variants, the standard Escalade and the larger version called Escalade ESV and it is the largest SUV in the lineup. It looks bold and powerful, offers ample cabin and seating for up to eight passengers, and it is equipped with advanced safety and infotainment features. As well, it comes in four flavors which include the base, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum trim levels. Under the hood, it is powered by the strong V-8 engine and it is able to tow up to 8,300 pounds. However, the brand-new 2020 Cadillac Escalade will represent the fifth generation of this model and will bring various upgrades.
First of all, the upcoming Escalade will ride on the new platform and it is going to be significantly lighter than its predecessor. Moreover, the carmaker will redesign it with similar styling cues seen on the Cadillac Escala Concept. So, we expect it to look more attractive and luxurious both inside and out. The new Cadillac will also feature a new engine under its hood, and according to the latest reports, it will also feature a plug-in hybrid variant.
2020 Cadillac Escalade powertrain and gearbox
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade will most likely use a new engine and it is going to be a 4.2-liter twin-turbo DOHC unit. This engine is able to make 550 horses and 627 pound-feet of torque. However, there isn’t information about its performance in the next-generation Escalade. Furthermore, this engine will work with a 10-speed automatic transmission. As well, there will be a choice between the front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems.
On the other hand, this model will also receive a plug-in hybrid engine at some period of time. It should be the same powertrain which powers the Cadillac CT-6. And it is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine in a combination with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack of 18.4 kWh. Moreover, it will also be offered the same unit found in the current model and it is a 6.2-liter V-8. This engine has the output of 420 ponies and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The new platform, exterior, and interior redesign
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade will ride on the new GM T1 architecture which will affect its weight and make it lighter than its forerunner for around 500 pounds. As for the exterior redesign, the new Escalade will borrow similar design cues from the Cadillac Escala Concept which will make it look more elegant, modern, and more attractive.
The cabin of the 2020 Cadillac Escalade will be more luxurious, sophisticated, and will feature advanced technology. It features three rows of seats and this time the third row will be more comfortable and roomier. Furthermore, the Escalade should get the latest CUE 3.0 infotainment system and for the first time, the GM Super Cruise autonomous driving technology. As well, the carmaker should also fit it with the independent rear suspension.
Release date and price
The 2020 Cadillac Escalade should enter the market at the end of 2019. The starting price of the current model is around $73,000. However, we assume that the next-generation model will be more expensive.
