2024 Audi Q5 Redesign: Last Generation With Internal Combustion Engines

Audi’s popular compact crossover is about to get a full redesign in the next year. The new model is expected to arrive as the 2024 Audi Q5 and from what we know so far, it will bring a lot of interesting novelties. However, these changes won’t be radical. Instead, we will see an evolutionary design approach, with proven design solutions but with upgrades in important aspects. The new model is expected to arrive in the second half of the next year.

As we’ve just mentioned, this redesign should bring evolutionary changes mostly. This refers to both mechanics and aesthetics and if we can judge by the test mule, the size won’t change significantly either. What’s important to mention is that this will be the last generation of Q5 with internal combustion engines. After that, things will get completely electrified. Meanwhile, the next-generation model will rely on mild and plug-in hybrids.

2024 Audi Q5 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Audi Q5 will receive a complete overhaul. The company is working on a new model, which is already in an advanced stage of development. The test mule has already been spotted on the road and from what we can see and hear, it will bring evolutionary changes mostly.

The test mule still wears camouflage, so we still don’t know the exact look of the new model. Still, some things can be seen through the camouflage, while a couple of rendering photos also show rather evolutionary styling changes. We expect that some aesthetical solutions will be taken from the all-electric e-tron, especially at the front end. On the other hand, the overall shape won’t change much.

It also looks like the overall size is about to remain the same or very similar. When it comes to mechanics, the new generation will continue to ride on a familiar MLB platform, though some updates are possible. This particularly refers to the suspension setup, which should receive some upgrades, in order to improve the ride quality and make this crossover more competitive with models like BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Interior

Naturally, we also expect to see a completely new interior design. The current cabin features pretty impressive build quality, but the aesthetics feel a little bit dull. Therefore, we expect a lot from the new model. We expect to see a typical Audi approach, which would combine conventional design solutions with lots of modern tech features and super-fine materials. Speaking of the tech features, we count on the latest infotainment system improved digital instrument cluster, new connectivity features, new advanced safety systems etc.

As we’ve just mentioned, the new model probably won’t feature bigger changes regarding the size. Therefore, we presume that the amount of passenger space will also remain pretty similar. This would mean a couple of pretty spacious rows of seats that accommodate adult passengers with ease. On the other hand, we will like to see new front seas, considering that the current ones aren’t as comfy as those found in rivals. Finally, improvements regarding cargo space are always welcome.

2024 Audi Q5 Engines

As we already mentioned, this will be the last generation with internal-combustion engines and most of the current units will carry over, though with some updates. First of all, we expect that all engine options will now come with a 48V mild-hybrid system, which should have a nice impact on fuel economy and driving dynamics. Also, each engine could get a slight power increase.

The current model comes standard with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, which features a max output of 201 horsepower. The same engine is available in a version with 261 horsepower, which offers notably better performance. Both units come in pair with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Of course, we count on the SQ5 as well, which would probably continue with the familiar 3.0-liter V6, which currently puts out 349 horsepower and comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Finally, there is the Q5 PHEV, which currently features a system based on a turbo-four engine, with a combined output of 362 horsepower.

Fuel Economy

We presume that the mild-hybrid setup will have a positive impact on fuel economy but we are also pretty sure that the numbers won’t be significantly different compared to the current model. For reference, the current model equipped with turbo-four returns around 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The SQ5 is significantly thirstier and returns around 19/24 city/highway, while the current plug-in hybrid provides around 26 mpg combined.

2024 Audi Q5 Release Date and Price

We believe that the 2024 Audi Q5 will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 46.000 dollars.
