2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad: Specs, Review, Arrival

The VW Beetle is an attractive, stylish, and affordable car available as a coupe or convertible. However, the latest news indicates that the carmaker is currently working on the next generation model which will hit the market as the Beetle SUV. So, the all-new 2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad will bring changes in design, but that is not all. It should also be available with a hybrid powertrain for the first time and perhaps even as an all-electric model.

Engine and performance of the 2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad

The base unit of the 2019 VW Beetle will be the same engine which powers the current model. And it is found in all versions including Dune and all convertibles. It is a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine with direct injection. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and features a manual and a Sport mode for better response. This engine is able to deliver 174 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. All the models will come standard with front-wheel drive configuration. When it comes to fuel economy, the standard coupe and convertible models get 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. However, the Beetle Dune coupe and convertible are rated at 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway.

On the other hand, according to the latest speculations, the carmaker is working on the hybrid version of the Beetle which should be able to deliver around 204 horses. And it will probably be the same engine which is found in the Golf GTE. As well, some sources also claim that we might see an all-electric version of the 2019 Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad. However, these are still speculations for now, and we will know more after the carmaker’s official announcement.

Design of exterior of 2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad

The newest 2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad will feature a unique design which will recognizable from the instant. It features short front and rear overhangs and arching roof. Compared to the current model, the new Beetle SUV will get some new details and design cues and it is expected to look more dynamic. However, we expect some similar design cues such as rounded headlights. As well, the upcoming Beetle will be underpinned with the Volkswagen’s modular MQB architecture which will make it a bit lighter than the current model. This same platform will probably be used by Audi carmaker for the production of its TTQ model. And this will result in better performance of the vehicle.

Furthermore, we have also heard the news about the new Beetle Dune model which has already been presented Detroit Motor Show last year as a concept model. The production model will feature a rugged appearance like the concept version. And it will get more aggressive bumpers both on front and rear fascias, a bit better ground clearance, and plastic trim on the wheel arches and rocker panels.

Design of the interior of the 2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad

Although it is not yet confirmed officially, the new 2019 VW Beetle SUV Hybrid and Allroad will probably adopt some similar styling cues from the current model. The current model features two rows of seats, and the front seats are highly comfortable and spacious. However, the second row of seats is very tight and it is even crowded for two. But, the brand-new Beetle SUV will probably improve the space in this area so it could handle two adults comfortably. As for the design of the interior, the Beetle SUV will feature modern and clean design. But at the same time, it will look retro, as the current model. The current VW Beetle offers the cargo room of 15.4 cubic feet which is not bad for a hatchback. However, the SUV version might offer more cargo room making it more functional.
