2019 Volvo XC70: Redesign, Arrival, Upgrades

The Volvo XC70 is the brand’s wagon-based crossover SUV which made its entrance to the market before more than a decade ago. It is a good choice for families especially when the safety is your priority. As well, it also offers a great cargo room and available all-wheel drive system which makes it capable in all-weather situations. The interior is comfortable and able to welcome up to five passengers. The last model has been slightly upgraded in 2016 with the new engine and standard 18-inch wheels and heated front seats. The company has also discontinued the previously used 3.0-liter turbocharged and 3.2-liter naturally aspirated units. However, it seems that the manufacturer is planning to launch the newest version. And it is the all-new 2019 Volvo XC70.

The last model year has started to show its age which was especially noticeable with the introduction of the brand-new XC90. So this time we can definitively expect changes in the exterior styling. The cabin could also get some upgrades regarding materials and tech features. The engine options should remain the same since the 2016 model year has brought some changes in this department.

Powertrain and performance

The 2019 Volvo XC70 will be available with two types of engines and will no longer use a 3.0-liter turbo and 3.2-liter units. The one choice will be a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine which will be able to make 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine will work with an 8-speed automatic transmission and the front-wheel drive system will be the only options. It gets 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.

The next is a 2.5-liter inline-5 turbocharged engine. This one will be able to produce 250 horses and the torque of 266 lb-ft. Furthermore, it will be mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The all-wheel drive system is standard. As for the fuel economy, it is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Its maximum towing capacity will be up to 3,300 pounds.

Redesign of exterior and interior

The Volvo XC70 looks like a wagon-based SUV with excellent ground clearance. It is tough and able to conquer any type of surface. However, its design has started to look aged, so in order to keep it fresh, the 2019 Volvo XC70 will most likely be revised. We expect the similar overall shape; but the grille, lights, and bumper will be restyled making it more competitive and handsome.

On the other hand, we don’t expect any changes in the interior capacity of the 2019 Volvo XC70. It seats five and offers the cargo space of 33 cubic feet. When it comes to standard equipment, it includes keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, fog lamps, satellite radio, Bluetooth, cruise control, heated side mirrors, and 7.0-inch color screen. As for the safety, it is available with a blind-spot warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection system, and so on.

Release date and price of the 2019 Volvo XC70

We might see the new 2019 Volvo XC70 later this year or in early 2019. But this information is not yet confirmed. The starting price is estimated to be around $38,000.
