2019 Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design and T5 Momentum

The Volvo manufacturer has expanded its lineup with a new crossover SUV which will go on sale as the 2019 Volvo XC40. It is the most affordable and the smallest brand’s SUVs and stands beneath the XC60 and XC90 models. This compact SUV offers excellent safety equipment, many modern features, and it looks handsome. The interior is also well packed and offers sufficient cargo room. It is available in several trim levels, including base T4 FWD, T5AWD Momentum, and R-Design models.

Engines and performances of the 2019 Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design and T5 Momentum

The all-new 2019 Volvo XC40 T5 will use a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged unit. This engine will be able to deliver 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes standard with all-wheel drive system. It will be able to hit 60 mph in 6.2 seconds. This engine is rated at 23 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined.

However, the Volvo XC40 will also be available with front-wheel drive and it is named the XC40 T4. This version will use the same 2.0-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine but it is going to be less powerful. It will be able to generate 187 horses and 221 pound-feet of torque. This unit will also work with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine is expected to be the most efficient in the XC40. Furthermore, the carmaker is also planning to introduce an electric version of its small SUV which should arrive later.

Design of exterior

Visually, compared to the larger XC60 and XC90, the upcoming 2019 Volvo XC40 will share some similarities with these models, but it will also feature unique design and details. It looks rugged and angular but at the same time very attractive. First of all, the XC40 won’t have a convex grille found in the XC60 and XC90 but instead a concave grille. However, it will have the brand’s familiar “Thor’s hammer” LED headlamps. On the rear, there are twin exhaust outlets and the taillights will also be equipped with LED lighting.

The R-Design models will feature the unique “R-Design” insignia which we find very nice. This version will ride on the 19-inch wheels while the large 20-inch ones will be optional. The standard model will have 18-inch wheels. As well, the R-Design model will receive a contrasting black roof while the Momentum trim will be available with a white roof.
