The well-known Japanese manufacturer has first introduced its full-size SUV called the Mitsubishi Pajero back in the 80s. Since then, it has changed through four generation while the current, the fourth has been present on the market since 2006. It is one of the most popular sport utility vehicles with excellent off-road capabilities. The current generation model hasn’t changed much for over a decade, and according to the latest rumors, the automaker should launch the next-gen model which should enter the showrooms as the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero.
So, the 2019 model year will represent the fifth generation and we believe that it should be refreshed in pretty much every front. Starting from the external appearance, the new Pajero should get some styling changes so it looks more handsome and fresh. Moving to the cabin of the Pajero SUV, we should notice upgrades in materials and technology as well. In the engine department, the new Mitsubishi will most likely run the same engine as its forerunner. However, some sources claim that it might feature a new plug-in hybrid engine at some point in future. As well, the latest news has confirmed that the new Pajero should share the same underpinning with the new Nissan Patrol.
Engine and performance
As for the engine options, the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero is expected to use the same engine as its forerunner and there is one powertrain available for all the trim levels. So, it should return with a 3.2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This unit is able to deliver around 189 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The power will be sent to all four wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission.
However, the sources have revealed that the Mitsubishi should also get some form of electrification and that it will most likely be a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Unfortunately, we don’t have any details and specs of this unit for now.
Exterior and interior of the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero
First of all, the newest 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero will be based on the new platform, the same one which will underpin the newest Nissan Patrol. Speaking of the exterior design, the Pajero is going to be refreshed for more appealing and attractive appearance. The front fascia should wear a restyled grille and sharper headlamps which are expected to get new LED lights. The bumpers could also be refreshed and we might see more chrome elements.
Regarding the interior design, the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero should also be revised with upgraded materials and more modern tech features. The dashboard should feature a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment system. Among other standard equipment, there should be air conditioning, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, a rearview camera etc. The higher trims should add parking sensors, audio system with 12 speakers, leather upholstery, sport front seats and so on.
Release date and price
The exact date of the arrival of the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero is not yet revealed to the public. As for the pricing, there isn’t any information yet. However, we assume that it should be higher than the starting price of the current model which is around $49,000.
