2019 Mitsubishi ASX: Design, Powertrain, Review

With the flexible interior, long equipment list, and attractive styling, the Mitsubishi ASX manages to stay competitive in the compact crossover SUV segment. Because of its dimensions, it is a perfect choice for the everyday drive but also for not so demanding adventures. The 2018 model year has entered the market with changes in styling giving it more aggressive appearance, upgraded and more quality interior, and some new modern infotainment and safety features.

So, the 2019 Mitsubishi ASX will basically continue with the same design as the current model. However, this time we have heard the news about the all-new plug-in hybrid version of this model. But, we still don’t have the information when exactly the PHEV model should appear on the market.

2019 Mitsubishi ASX types of engines and performances

The 2019 Mitsubishi ASX is expected to hit the market with a range of petrol and diesel units. And those are the same engines which power the current model. So, the option is going to be a 2.0-liter petrol engine which will have the output of 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. It will work with a 5-speed automatic gearbox but it should also be available with a continuously variable transmission. It will come standard with front-wheel drive layout. Among petrol units, the Mitsubishi ASX will also offer a 1.6-liter powertrain.

The next one will most likely be a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine. This powertrain will be able to generate 148 hp and the torque of 266 lb-ft. It will be coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the all-wheel drive system should be standard. On the other hand, we have heard the rumors about the plug-in hybrid engine should join the lineup alongside the traditional units. So, if these rumors appear to be true, the 2019 Mitsubishi SX should finally offer a plug-in hybrid unit which will provide improved fuel efficiency. Unfortunately, any further information is not yet available and we will have to wait for the carmaker’s official announcement.

Design of exterior

The 2018 model year has been slightly revised in the terms of the exterior design, so we expect similar treatment for the upcoming 2019 Mitsubishi ASX. Its latest design is inspired by the XR-PHEV concept model and it now features a more aggressive appearance. The whole front fascia now looks bolder because of the “Dynamic Shield” design. So, the front end wears revised grille, thinner headlamps, redesigned bumper, and new LED daytime running lights. The rear end of the vehicle will get a new bumper and will be taller which will make it look sportier than before. Furthermore, looking from the profile, the ASX will also get more aggressive appearance because of the tall rear end and fastback roofline.

The interior design of the 2019 Mitsubishi ASX

As far as the interior design of the 2019 Mitsubishi ASX is concerned, we expect upgrades in several levels. So, the outdated materials in the previous versions will most likely be replaced by new and more quality ones. The cabin should be quieter, and we are hoping for more tech features as well, although it doesn’t lack in modern features. But generally, the ASX will arrive with the same, two-row seating configuration and will be able to place up to five passengers. This time, the carmaker will offer it with upgraded interior trims and the automatic models should also get a new look of the gearshift. Thanks to the new acoustic absorption materials which reduce vibration and noise, the ASX will now be quieter.
