2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE: Release Date, Interior, Upgrades

The Mercedes carmaker is testing its popular mid-size SUV, the GLE model which has appeared in 2016 as a revised version of the M-Class. It is the all-new 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE which represents the next generation model and will bring many changes and improvements starting from the new platform, design, handling, and technology. Generally, the GLE model is a luxury car which is available with several powertrains and power outputs. As well, if you are looking for a more fuel economical variant, there is a plug-in hybrid too. Furthermore, the Mercedes GLE is loaded with latest safety systems and many infotainment features.

However, the 2019 version will be better in every segment of the vehicle. It will move to another architecture which will make it a bit larger. But despite the increase in size, the GLE will be slightly lighter than its predecessor which will improve handling, fuel economy and general performances. The exterior will get more rounded lines and will feature more modern styling. According to the photos, the cabin will be revised with the new MBUX infotainment system which has been first used in the A-Class. Furthermore, because of the new flexible platform, the GLE might get some new engines including 4-, 6-, 8-cylinder units with both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations.

For the American market, the 22019 Mercedes-Benz GLE should be available with two engines like the current model. The one is a 3.5 V-6 engine which will be able to make 302 hp and 273 pound-feet of torque. The power will be sent to rear wheels while the all-wheel drive will be optional. With standard RWD, it is rated at 18/23 while with AWD it gets 18/22 mpg.

The next is a plug-in hybrid which combines a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engine and an electric motor. This engine is able to deliver 436 horses and 479 lb-ft of torque. This engine gets 38 mpg and 50 MPGe and it will provide an all-electric range of 10 miles. Both engines will work with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be switched to the new MRA platform which will make it larger. But despite the increase in size, the new Mercedes will be lighter and better to handle. Visually, it will feature a more rounded shape and will look sleeker. As well, it is going to be slightly lower which will emphasize the vehicle’s width. The grille will be slightly revised too so as the lights which will feature more rounded shape and LED lighting.

The interior of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE will be reworked also and the most noticeable changes will be the newest MBUX infotainment system and two large screens on the center of the dashboard. Those will most likely be the 12.3-inch displays which are also found in the E-Class, S-Class, and CLS models. Furthermore, a wide range of safety features has been announced as well.

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE is set to hit the market in late 2018. And the pricing will stay similar to the current one. It starts at $53,000 while the hybrid is around $67,000.
