The Mazda CX-5 has always been popular because of its handsome styling, excellent fuel economy, and quality cabin. However, the carmaker has finally equipped it with the new diesel and turbo gasoline engines. So, this time, we are talking about the newest 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Edition.
Engine and performance of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Edition
Like the current model, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 will be powered by the same engine but it will also get a new turbo diesel engine. The first is an already familiar 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Skyactive gasoline engine with cylinder deactivation. This engine is able to make 187 horsepower and the torque of 186 pound-feet. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and comes with a choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The standard front-wheel drive model is rated at 25 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive variant is estimated to be 24 city, 30 highway, and 26 mpg combined. The CX-5 can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
On the other hand, according to the latest news, the manufacturer will finally offer a turbo diesel engine in the United States. So, we are soon hoping to see the newest 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Edition which will be powered by a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This unit has the output of around 173 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. However, it will most likely come with all-wheel drive layout only. The estimated fuel economy of the diesel engine is 27/34/30 mpg.
Furthermore, some sources claim that we could also see a turbocharged version of the first 2.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline unit. And this one will most likely be capable of producing around 250 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque. As well, this model is rated at 22/28/26 mpg in the city/highway/combined drive.
Design of the exterior
The CX-5 has always been a nice looking vehicle and the current model has been slightly refreshed taking some similar styling cues from the larger CX-9 model. So, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 and 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Edition as well, won’t get any visual changes this time. The CX-5 features a long hood, recognizable trapezoidal grille and prominent narrow headlamps equipped with LED lighting. On the rear end, there is a simply designed bumper and smaller taillights. The base CX-5 rides on the 17-inch alloy wheels while the higher trim levels have the larger 19-inch alloys.
The interior design of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Edition
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Edition won’t be different from the standard model. The CX-5 offers a quality, comfortable, and luxurious interior with many standard and optional features. It comes with standard two-row seating configuration and standard cloth upholstery. However, the higher trim levels get the synthetic leather or real leather upholstery. The front seats are very supportive and cozy and in the higher trims get standard power-adjustable driver’s seat. The space for the rear seat passengers is good, but the three occupants might feel a bit tight.
Speaking of the cargo room, with all seats up, the CX-5 offers the room of 31 cubic feet. However, if you need more space for the luggage, the second row of seats can be folded down which expand the room to around 60 cubic feet. The dashboard is equipped with a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment system but it lacks Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
