The brand-new Mazda CX-3 has been announced for 2019 and should be presented sometime during this year. The 2019 Mazda CX-3 should get some small but important upgrades. It will use the same engine which should now be improved for slightly more power. In the exterior design, we will notice new lights while the cabin will get some changes of the center console, cozier seats, and a few more upgrades.
Under the hood of the 2019 Mazda CX-3
The upcoming 2019 Mazda CX-3 will be powered by one single option and it is the same unit used in the current model. However, for 2019, the Mazda should get slightly more power. It is a 2.0-liter inline-4 Skyactiv-G which in the 2018 model year has the output of 146 hp and 146 pound-feet of torque. However, in the 2019 model year, the new Mazda should be able to deliver 148 horses and the torque of 148 pound-feet. The engine will work with a 6-speed automatic transmission and will come with a front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The front-wheel drive variant is rated at 29 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg combined. Mated at an all-wheel drive configuration, this engine is estimated to be 27 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined.
Design of exterior
The all-new 2019 Mazda CX-3 is expected to receive just some small adjustments in the exterior styling. However, it won’t receive any changes on the front and rear fascia design and there won’t be any new body lines. Generally looking, the Mazda CX-3 is like a smaller version of the larger CX-5 and it looks very handsome and attractive. It features a long hood and a coupe-like rear end. The front end will have the same grille design while the headlights will be restyled with the new LED accents. The taillights will also be upgraded with the new circular layout. Furthermore, the CX-3 will now ride on the 18-inch wheels on the Touring trim levels which will give it sportier appearance while the base model will use 16-inch wheels.
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 will arrive with two rows of seats as the current model. The front-seat passengers will have enough room while the rear ones might lack in headroom because of the CX-3’s sloped roofline. The base model will have cloth upholstery while the higher trims will get leather. Behind the second row, there is a cargo space of 12.4 cubic feet which can be increased to 44 cubic feet with the second row folded down. Furthermore, there will be a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen for Mazda Connect infotainment system in the center of the dashboard.
On the other hand, the 2019 model year will get some small revisions which could not be noticed at first glance. First of all, the new 2019 Mazda CX-3 will get slightly revised seats which will now be more comfortable and will provide better support. They will also get a new seat material. Furthermore, there will be new cup holsters for the back seat occupants. As well, the center console will be refreshed and it seems wider now because of an electronic parking brake which is now standard.
Features and safety of the 2019 Mazda CX-3
The 2019 Mazda CX-3 will be available in three trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. The Sport model will come standard with keyless ignition, cloth upholstery, 16-inch wheels, two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, a rearview camera, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with infotainment system.
The mid-level Touring model will add synthetic leather upholstery, 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, automatic headlights, automatic climate control, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a leather-wrapped shift knob, and proximity key. The optional features for the Touring will include a Bose audio system, satellite radio, and a moonroof.
The range-topping Grand Touring will come with rear leather upholstery, navigation, a head-up display, and LED lights. Furthermore, the Premium Package for the Grand Touring model will add adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel, lane departure warning, power front seats, and automatic high beams. The all-wheel drive system comes optional on every model and it costs $1,250. Unfortunately, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity won’t be available once again.
As for the safety, all models come with a full complement of airbags, G-Vectoring Control, stability and traction control, and a rearview camera. The higher-speed system will come as an option in the Grand Touring trim levels and will include lane departure warning, adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display.
