2024 BMW X3 Redesign: What We Know So Far

Although the current generation has been around for just a little bit more than four years, the Bavarian carmaker already works on the next generation of its popular crossover. The new model has been spotted on the track of Nurburgring and the latest reports suggest the new model will hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year.

At this point, we know for sure that the 2024 BMW X3 will be based on the updated version of the CLAR platform, which underpins most of the company’s lineup. The test mule appears to be slightly bigger than the outgoing model. Most of the changes should be evolutionary, so we expect to see slight improvements in all aspects. When it comes to powertrain, the new generation will be offered in gasoline and hybrid variants, while the European model will be available with oil burners too.

2024 BMW X3 Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 BMW X3 is about to come completely redesigned. This is one of the company’s most important models, so it’s no wonder that engineers are taking a pretty cautious design approach. From what we can see on the test model, the overall exterior design won’t bring radical changes. Although some sources suggest a little bit bigger dimensions, these changes will be quite minimal.

The same thing is with the styling. We count on the evolution of the brand’s current design language. The test mule still wears complete camouflage, so we can talk about the details. On the other hand, unofficial renderings already appeared on the network and we can see a sharper design, with a bigger and bolder grille, along with narrower headlights.

The next generation will continue to ride on the company’s well-known CLAR platform, which will get some updates, of course. Considering that the current model already offers a pretty impressive driving experience, we are pretty sure that the company won’t make significant chassis and suspension changes, but rather just small tweaks that will make the new model even more impressive.

Interior

At this point, it is still early to talk about interior details. Still, spy photographers managed to provide us with a minimal glimpse, which shows a large screen that integrates a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, in the same fashion as the new X7 and iX models.

Of course, this won’t be the only novelty inside the 2024 BMW X3. We count on a completely new dashboard design, with more attractive shapes and even nicer materials. We presume that BMW will once again offer its typical design approach, which combines nice materials and conservative aesthetics.

The new generation might become slightly bigger but these changes will probably be minimal. Therefore, we expect to see very similar amounts of space. The current generation is already among class leaders in this aspect, with a couple of very spacious and comfortable seats, which both accommodate adults with ease.

The current generation also offers one of the largest cargo areas in the class, with 28.7 cubic feet of space behind its rear seats and 62.7 cubic feet in total. That’s way more than you get from closest rivals, such as Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, so we presume that the next-generation model will offer similar numbers.

2024 BMW X3 Engines

Of course, novelties are expected under the hood as well. We presume that the lineup will be similar to the current one, though we presume some power increase would happen in certain versions. Base models will continue with a well-known 2.0-liter turbo-four, which currently puts out around 250 horsepower.

The 3.0-liter inline-six was updated a few years ago and it will probably come without bigger changes. The current output goes around 382 horsepower in its base variant, while there is also a version that powers M-badged models, which comes in versions with 473 and 503 horsepower.

Finally, we count on a plug-in hybrid version, based on a turbo-four engine. European versions will also come in diesel variants.

All engines will come in pairs with 8-speed automatic transmissions.

Fuel Economy

Although it’s still early to talk about numbers, we expect similar ratings to the current generation. The current model equipped with a turbo-four returns around 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, which are pretty good ratings for the class. The inline-six returns around 21/26 city/highway. Models with an M badge return around 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

2024 BMW X3 Release Date and Price

We expect that the new generation will arrive sometime in the second half of the next year, as the 2024 BMW X3. The starting price will probably be slightly higher compared to the current model, which starts at around 46.500 dollars.
