How the other manufacturers have introduced luxurious SUVs such as Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the BMW X6, the Audi carmaker has decided to present it all-new flagship SUV model. It is the brand-new 2019 Audi Q8 Concept. The upcoming Q8 will share many similarities with the Q7 including a platform, engines, and design, but the flagship Q8 is going to be even more luxurious in the terms of technology and styling.
Engines and performances of the 2019 Audi Q8 Concept
Although it is not yet officially confirmed, the upcoming 2019 Audi Q8 Concept will most likely borrow the same engine options as the Q7 model. And there will be a range of 4-cylinder and V-6 engines. So, the first in the lineup could be a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine which in the Q7 is able to produce 252 hp and 272 pound-feet of torque.
The next option will probably be a 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharged engine. This one has the output of 333 horses and 325 lb-ft of torque. There will also be a 3.0-liter V-6 TDI diesel engine which is capable of making 272 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. The second version of the turbo-diesel V-6 unit will be able to deliver 218 horsepower and the torque of 369 pound-feet.
Furthermore, the Q8 e-Tron model is also very likely to happen. And this one will use a 3.0-liter TDI unit with an electric motor and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain is rated at 373 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque in the Q7 and provides an all-electric range of 35 miles. The upcoming Q8 SUV will come standard with Quattro all-wheel drive configuration. It will also get a mild hybrid technology, the 48-volt system with a lithium-ion battery and a belt alternator starter.
Design of exterior
The new 2019 Audi Q8 Concept will share the same platform with the Q7 SUV. However, compared to the Q7, the Q8 will be slightly shorter, lower and wider and both will feature the same wheelbase. So, as for its dimensions, the newest Q8 will be 16.4 ft long, 6.6 ft wide, and 5.6 ft tall.
In the terms of external appearance, the 2019 Audi Q8 Concept features a sporty look and its design is very close to the R8 sports car. The front end wears Audi’s well-known single-frame grille. But the grille is revised and looks unique. It is also wider and taller and features sharp edges which give it more menacing look. The grille combines vertical and horizontal slats with chrome and black details. There are slim headlamps with standard LED lighting and the Matrix LEDs lights will also be available. Below the headlamps, there is a black trim which makes the lights visually larger. Furthermore, underneath the grille, we can notice a sporty bumper with large air vents placed on each side.
The side of the vehicle features a combination of a hatchback and a crossover design. The prominent wheel arches and the large 22-inch wheels give it a powerful appearance. The roof shape features a distinctive design with narrow and tall rear door window. Moving to the rear end, which is also unique, there are slim and angular taillights with small and vertical LED strips and the full-width horizontal light bar. As well, we will notice a sporty bumper, massive exhaust outlets, and a large spoiler on the tailgate.
Design of interior of the 2019 Audi Q8 Concept
The cabin of the 2019 Audi Q8 Concept is also based on the Audi Q7 but differs with some unique features. The dashboard is wide and features a large 10.1-inch touchscreen with the latest MMI infotainment system alongside the smaller 8.6-inch display above the center console. The instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches screen and is fully digital. There is also the continuous air vent strip on the top of the dashboard and the lower section is fitted in black which gives it a premium look. The front seats are large and very comfortable and upholstered in luxurious leather with a diamond pattern. The rear seats are also cozy and provide excellent head and leg room as well. Speaking of the cargo space, the Q8 comes with 21.4 cubic feet while with the rear seats folded flat it offers the room of 62 cubes.
As for the equipment, the brand-new 2019 Audi Q8 Concept will be offered with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with the newest MMI infotainment system, air conditioning, navigation, climate control, heated seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and so on.
Release date and price
The 2019 Audi Q8 Concept is set to go on sale sometime at the end of this year. The price is not yet revealed, but it should definitively be higher than the price of the Q7 which begins at $49,900. So, we assume that the Q8 might start at around $60,000.
